when i back-up about 38 Gig of data with nt back-up on a dds 4 tape it doesn't compress and if i back-up the same amount of data in sbs4.5 it compresses but then just only 21 gig can fit on the tape. and in win2k it doesn't compress @ all. i hope some can help me out a bit.

Tnx for reading and hope u reply.

Re: hp dat 40i

How do you use ntbackup ? I suppose you run a scheduled task using a script to perform the backup task. You must verify that using the commndline ntbackup.exe command in the script the /hc:on parameter is set for hardware compression. I would like to have a look at the script, please feel free to attach it.

Re: hp dat 40i

Does compression work when trying a manual not scheduled backup ???

Re: hp dat 40i

Sounds like your file system is NTFS, with compression. If that is the case then you will get little to no compression.

A good test its to try backing up a network drive using a FAT file system. If you get better compression, then you know where the problem is.
