I have loaded the required drivers, per the HP web site, and rebooted the server. I still do not see the autoch (HP Autoloader 1/8 SDLT 320) drive when I do an ioscan.
Also, I tried using the LTT v3.5 tool to detect the hardware & the Autoloader shows up in the tool sometimes & then other times is absent. So, I cannot update the firmware for this Autoloader hardware either.
Please help.
Any additional advice?

Re: ioscan not detecting autoch (HP Autoloader 1/8 SDLT 320)
Which drivers you have loaded?
Which HBA you are using? ( PN and driver version )
What ioscan shows? ( Post ioscan -fn )
You should see an entry ( claimed ) for autoch with schgr driver for the loader besides entries for DLT drives with stape driver. You need to create a device file for loader using sctl driver.
Even though LTT supports this Autoloader , you need to make sure ioscan works correctly.
Note : You have given points to 32 out of 168 responses to you questions which is not good.

Re: ioscan not detecting autoch (HP Autoloader 1/8 SDLT 320)
My first guess would be that the schgr driver is not added to the kernel.
Can you post the output of 'ioscan -fnC autoch'?

Re: ioscan not detecting autoch (HP Autoloader 1/8 SDLT 320)
As per the ioscan -fn output , you see a SDLT 320 tape drive is conencted with SCSI ID 5. Did you set the SCSI ID for the autoloader? Ensure it is not conflicting with others.
The model should use two SCSI IDs , one for autoloader and anothere for the drive.
Refer the following document to get you an idea how it should be configured.
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c00411112/c00411
112.pdf
Set the SCSI ID ( un-used ) for the autoloader from the front panel. The procedure is given in the above document.
I guess you are already using SCSI IDs 0,2,5,7 . So you can use other remained IDs. But better you cross-check as you know the hardware better than us.
Once you are done with SCSI ID setting , you should see the autoch entry in the ioscan. Then run insf -e. It would create a device file with schgr as device driver. As I said before , you need to creat a new device file with sctl driver for the autoloder.
We are impressed from you comments about the forum and do appreciate it. The only thing to remind people over here about assigning points is to maintain the zeal of this forum forever.
Remember, you need to assign appropriate points to the responses based on how they are useful for you to know the soultion of the problem. If you assign points so freely which you did, would make the thread as answered/finished and people may not look at it assuming it is answered/solved already.

Re: ioscan not detecting autoch (HP Autoloader 1/8 SDLT 320)
Thank you for your reply. I have the doc from the link that you had posted. I agree; this is a very complete & helpful doc.
I did not set the SCSI ID for the autoloader. I didn't think that it was a requirement, however, I agree that I need to look into this more.

Re: ioscan not detecting autoch (HP Autoloader 1/8 SDLT 320)
Ioscan is most useful when presented in fixed pitch font. As the forum input box uses, but not as displayed later. You should always put ioscan output in a plain text file and attach it rather than putting it in the text box.
Thanks,
Scott
