move media to mail-slot with command-line (MSL6000)

Hello,
can I move a media in the HP MSL6000 to the mail-slot with a command from the command-line in Windows 2000?
Thanks

Frank,

What is your backup software? If it is DataProtector, there is a tool called uma.exe that allows you to move a tape from slot A to slot B.

On Unix it is:

uma -ioctl -move move source_slot destination_slot

Do you have the Remote Management Interface of the library working (connected to the LAN)? You can move then a tape from the web page. This is also an easy option.

Frank,

There's a very nice tool included with HPUX, called MC

'man mc' will answer your question.

The uma tool works on Windows as well, the mc command is HPUX only.

Hi,

with w2000 environment, you can install L&TT (the diagnostic tool from HP) and there is a function that allow you to move tapes in the library. But remember to stop your Backup services.

Thanks for your help!

Kurt,

my backup software is DataProtector 5.1, but the tool uma.exe doesn´t support the parameter -move. On the basis of your answer, I find out, that the command omnimm.exe -eject from DataProtector can directly move a media to the mail-slot.

Lucien,

I don´t use HPUX.

Marino,

L&TT can´t move a media by command-line.

Re: move media to mail-slot with command-line (MSL6000)

Frank,

Check the pdf 'CLIReference.pdf' in your docs subdirectory or on the DP CD.

The command uma is discussed in there and you can move a tape from slot A to slot B.

But the omnimm.exe can do your job as well (always good to mention your backup solution in the question as well).

best regards,

Kurt

Re: move media to mail-slot with command-line (MSL6000)

Frank,

On windows it is
uma -ioctl
prompt:
>stat
this command gives you details on your drives and mail-slot(s)
>move d3 x2
would move the tape in drive drive to mail-slot 2

Note you have to do it on your cell manager.

If you need an example let me know...

Cheers,
Bart
