moved MSL5000 to new switch; now 'mc' gets error
moved MSL5000 to new switch; now 'mc' gets error
Old 2GB, 8-port switch,
already ISLed to another 2gb switch on port 7.
Switch was fully populated, with the MSL tape (i.e., e1200) in port 6.
We now wanted to add a new 8/24 switch to the fabric.
To free up a port to make the ISL between the two, we connected the e1200 thusly:
disconnect from port 6 on the OLD
connect to port 10 on the new
using a different cable.
The new SFP is an 8GB.
Then made the ISL old,6 --> new,11.
I did 'insf -e' ,ioscan' , and 'ioscan -fn'
and know that I am using the correct device name,
but when do a 'mc -r DIMS' , I get error.
Pine3 ## ioscan -fn | grep -e autoch -e rac
... autoch 1 0/2/1/0.1.6.255.0.0.0 schgr NO_HW DEVICE COMPAQ MSL5000 Series

So, the /dev/rac/c11t0d0 NO_HW is the OLD path, fabricID 1, port 6 .
New device is /dev/rac/c6t0d0, fabricID 3, port 10 .
/dev/rac/c4t0d0 is the other MSL on fabricID 12, port 4 .

The other MSL on another swith works fine:

Re: moved MSL5000 to new switch; now 'mc' gets error
Well, I tried rebooting the E1200,
but that did not help.
Then, I connected to the MSL, itself, via Internet Explorer.
When I TRIED TO MANAGE it
it said:
... The library is not ready
... -- The library is in menu mode.
It would not let me do anything.
SO, we had inadvertently, left it in menu mode.
Could that be the problem?
I'm working remotely, so have no physical access
and cannot try this until tomorrow or Monday.

OK
NEVER MIND.
It was in MENU on front panel.
Another person had physical access and cleared the menu.
NOW it works as expected.
