symmpi Event 11 - Controller error \Device\Scsi\symmpi3
A customer is using the DLTVS80 Autoloader Tape drive (8 casettes). The unit is connected to a ML150 G2 Server thru the HP Ultra320 SCSI Dual Channel card.
At some times when runinng tape initialization and backup jobs, the Event Log gets spammed with Event 11.
"symmpi"
The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Scsi\symmpi3.
What could this be? This morning the server hung up because of this.
The OS is 2003 Standard. The Removable Storage service is shut off (before, the backup didn't work at all).
The latest drivers for the SCSI card from HP is used.

What is the version of "SYMMPI.SYS" driver installed?
It has to be version 1.10.01.00 (or later).

LSI Logic
1.10.05.02 built by: WinDDK
The Swedish HP Support could not help me. Any ideas?

Re: symmpi Event 11 - Controller error \Device\Scsi\symmpi3
the HP part number of the SCSI card being used?
windows OS service pack ?
Autoloader firmware version?
Do you see any error at autoloader end?
Run library tape tool LTT and check the its logs.

The RSM could start if reconnect the autoloader to the server. If you are not going to use the native "backup" utility, then RSS could disabled permanantly by changing the registry settings.

Re: symmpi Event 11 - Controller error \Device\Scsi\symmpi3
The HP article ID for the SCSI card is: 268351-B21 (HP Dual Channel Ultra320 SCSI Host Bus Adapter)
The server OS is Windows 2003 Standard Service Pack 1
The autoloader firmware is 5E40
LTT diagnostics fail with following reason:
The test function encountered an unrecoverable error condition, the test failed.
SCSIScript: buldin function error (Line: 686, Error: GetDevInfoData: Invalid Device (secondary_01))
I can't tell if there is any error message at the end, if it is most necesary i can look it up.
Thanks so far
