This is output from ioscan:
tape 0 0/4/1/0.5.0 stape CLAIMED DEVICE HP DAT72X6
unknown -1 0/4/1/0.5.1 UNCLAIMED UNKNOWN HP DAT72X6
And this is the message from fbackup:
fbackup(1004): session begins on Tue Apr 1 22:25:22 2008
fbackup(3048): could not position media /dev/rmt/0m to beginning
fbackup(3019): would you like to enter a new output file?
fbackup(3004): writer aborting
fbackup(1002): Backup did not complete : Reader or Writer process exit
Does anyone know how to fix this problem. I probably need to get rid of the UNCLAIMED UNKNOWN tape device first and go from there but not sure how to do that.
Thank you,
Luann

Re: tape drive being unclaimed and claimed at the same time
Hi Luann,
>ape 0 0/4/1/0.5.0 stape CLAIMED DEVICE HP DAT72X6
>unknown -1 0/4/1/0.5.1 UNCLAIMED UNKNOWN HP DAT72X6
Both are different H/W path. BTW, U can follow below process:-
1. Check Ur Tape Device & Server connectivity.
2. After check the connectivity, then if possible reboot both systems
3. ioscan
4. insf -ev
5. ioscan -fnC tape
Thanks--Yaqub

Solution
Hi luann hyde What you are looking as unknown unclaimed is the MEDIA CHANGER if you look you will se that the SCSI ID is the same but not the LUN
0/4/1/0.5.0 Tape Drive
0/4/1/0.5.1 Media Changer
You want to make sure that schgr driver is IN IN
Then try the insf -e command so it can istall the drivers for it.
