tape quality poor

Hi,

I have another problem here. When the backup backing up the C:\ the tape quality will become poor. Check the error message and only show that "can not write to device (medium error).Connection to Media agent broken" then the backup failed. The system using Win NT and the tape drive connected to it and is using omniback II 3.5.

Thanks for you help.

Re: tape quality poor

Hi,

You fix this by re-initialising the tape and
making sure that you have a second tape in the
media pool available just in case.

Did you your other problem get solved?

Re: tape quality poor

Hi Micheal,

The previous haven't solve yet. For tape quality problem, actually we did try initialize the tape for many time and even use a new tape but still having the same problem.

Thanks.

Re: tape quality poor

Hello,

Have you tried to clean the head of the drive using a cleaning tape? It may be that the head is very dirty and is corrupting the tapes that way.

Re: tape quality poor

Hi,

Always check the light on the drive to
see if it requires cleaning. Some tape
libraries can carry out the cleaning
automatically. Check to see if your
model is one of these.
I suspect that the tapes are being marked
as poor due to your SCSI resets which
usually results in tapes being left
stuck in drives, as I've this from
type of problem. Suggest you try to
fix the other problem first, as I think
that will also result in fixing this
one.
