Which drive type do you have (VS80, LTO1, LTO2)?

Re: ultrium 1/8 tape library error code BB

Here's the document we keep updated with all the error codes:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=lpg75116

The error BB is an unload timeout (no suprise). The document suggests to power-cycle for starters.

Let us know what the drive type is if the error persists.

Re: ultrium 1/8 tape library error code BB

If the problem continues after a power-cycle, I suggest you take off the top cover (8 torx screws) and observe what happens when you attempt to unload the tape from the front panel.

Does the tape attempt to eject from the drive but fails to get removed by the gripper, or does it not eject at all?

Before trying this, the first thing I would suggest is to install HP Library & Tape Tools (www.hp.com/support/tapetools) and collect a support ticket (to capture the drive and autoloader fault logs).

Re: ultrium 1/8 tape library error code BB

If you have tried to eject the tape via the front panel, and it does not unload successfully. Un-screw the casing as suggested, and on the right hand side of the drive toward the front there is a black thumb wheel. If the tape was in the middle of an operation there is a possiblity that the tape could be wound inside the spool in the drive. On the bottom of the autoloader there is a small rectangular sticker. You can punch a hole in this sticker and stick a philips-head screw driver is the hole, wind in a counterclockwise motion (for an LTO tape)for a while to wind the tape back into the tape cartridge. It should stop when all the tape is wound inside the cartridge.
You can then try turning the thumb wheel. You may have to take the tape slot off the track to get to the thumb wheel. The tape slot pops off the track fairly easily.

Here is an HP document for assitance.
