vs80e design flaw

All of you will by now know that these units are a bad investment. HP has a clearly conrtictive warranty regarding these units as they are well aware that these drives are flawed. Support will recommend the appropriate scsi card and will go through a list of troubleshooting techniques taken from the idiots guide to support. Hats off to HP for creating the first disposable DLT drive, a copy of their successful printer death technology. Our company has three of these units. Unit one lasted 8 months, unit two lasted 12 months and unit three lasted 13. Coincidence? I hardly think so.

John,
as I know these units are having Benchmark DLT1 drives inside. I remember I saw somewhere that there could be issues with their power supplies. Did you check it? How drives got dead?

Re: vs80e design flaw

Hello,

Specifically, what were the faults these 3 tape drives encountered?
