5 new business consulting and OSS approaches to differentiate your services offer just launched

andreassons

It’s common sense that to be successful, companies must differentiatetheir product offerings from the competition. But for communication service providers, this is particularly challenging since their offerings are often easy to imitate. New applications or service bundles can typically be copied easily, and if you are the first to offer a new technology, you can be sure that sooner or later, it will become available to all.

So what are differentiators that are difficult to copy by competing operators? Of course, the first answer that comes to mind is price. This is since keeping lower prices puts specific requirements on the company’s business performance and strategy. It implies that the business operates at a lower cost level than others, which is why the company has the freedom to play with prices without a negative impact on the bottom line.

Secondly, but perhaps less obious, is the ability to continuously deliver good quality of service to users.

If the level of service is below expectations, subscribers won’t care about other differentiators such as fun applications, loyalty promotions, and attractive advertisement campaigns, which will never substitute the basic need of reliable connections, at high quality, and at an acceptable price. Subscribers don’t change operator because of appealing offerings by others, but because they are frustrated with their current operator. It’s not easy to imitate operational excellence -  it’s intimately related to the efficiency of internal processes of the company  - and even its culture.

Agile and efficient Operations Support Systems (OSS) are key to ensure sustained high quality of services to end users, and to reduce operational costs. At TM Forum’s Management World 2013, HP acknowledged this need by launching a set of new services and OSS software solutions that help communication service providers differentiate through:

  • Strategy-to-Execution consulting – HP Solution Consulting Services
