ConteXtream joins our NFV ecosystem: HP OpenNFV Partner Announcement

2015 will be the year of SDN adoption. One of the primary markets driving the adoption is the communications service provider (CSP) segment – wireless, landline and cable specifically. The HP OpenNFV Partner Program facilitates adoption in these types of organizations by providing CSPs a fully agile network build specifically to their needs. This month, we welcomed carrier-grade SDN fabric provider, ConteXtream to the OpenNFV Partner Program. Open source and ConteXtream’s OpenDaylight-based SDN Fabric, ContexNet was developed on this principle and makes a great addition to HP’s growing SDN portfolio.

“We are delighted to be a part of the HP OpenNFV Partner Program as this partnership with a trusted vendor helps carriers embrace these technologies with greater ease and agility, while passing forward the benefits to their end-users.” said Nachman Shelef, CEO of ConteXtream. This partnership builds upon our existing global relationship with ConteXtream who is already an AllianceOne partner. ConteXtream’s SDN fabric is integrated with the HP NFV software portfolio including NFV Director and HP Helion OpenStack. They have collaborated on two European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) proof-of-concepts including virtualized Gi-LAN and SDN-enabled virtualized evolved packet core (EPC). ConteXtream’s solution is currently deployed with tier-1 carriers on HP platforms (C7K and DL series), serving over 100 million subscribers, with more than 50 billion analytic records generated per day.

ContexNet is a carrier-grade SDN fabric that enables NFV for various solutions deployed on carrier networks. It dynamically and elastically connects subscribers to services and enables carriers to leverage standard, general-purpose server hardware and hypervisors to virtualize functions and services, while replacing costly purpose-built proprietary systems. ContexNet is now integrated with HP Helion and NFV Director. The coupling of capabilities from HP that enable elastic deployment, on demand orchestration, and sharing of infrastructure for network function with the ability of ContexNet to dynamically control the network traffic so flows can be delivered in real time to available set of virtual functions is very powerful and will go a long way in helping operators leverage the real benefits and economics of NFV and SDN.
