GENBAND & HPE: Working Together with other Ecosystem Partners to Bring the Benefits of NFV to Life

Guest Author:  Sanjay Bhatia, Vice President of Solutions Marketing & Strategy, GENBAND

The NFV World Congress is quickly establishing itself as one of the communications industry’s premier conferences for Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) and Software Defined Networking (SDN).  Thought leaders and subject matter experts from across the industry will gather in San Jose April 19 -22 to discuss the latest developments in NFV and SDN.  I am extremely excited about this year’s NFV World Congress because of a couple of reasons.

One being the great progress that GENBAND and our ecosystem partners are making in bringing real world NFV-based solutions to life that help service providers quickly and efficiently introduce new communications services to businesses and consumers, while having the ability to dynamically respond to changing market conditions and consumer demands. The other reason I am so excited about NFV World Congress is the innovative solutions that we will be showcasing at the conference.

Our NFV solutions utilize the latest Intel® architecture and solutions from other key ecosystem partners such as Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) to enable service providers to elastically and optimally deploy new communications services at scale.  Utilizing Intel’s software architecture we are demonstrating our unique ability to process media elastically and at carrier-scale for NFV-based Real Time Communications services including VoLTE, Internet of Things, interconnect and fixed network media applications. At NFV World Congress we will demonstrate our elastic and carrier-scale virtualized media transcoding capabilities for NFV deployments.

GENBAND’s advanced media solution, which consists of voice and video transcoding and media processing for multiple real time communications applications including VoLTE (Voice over LTE), 5G and Distributed Session Border Controllers (SBCs), uses the latest Intel® architecture to allow communications service providers to automatically and independently scale control and bearer plane Virtual Network Functions (VNF) functions for optimal NFV deployments in service provider cloud environments. We have also integrated our VNF software onto the HPE Helion Open Stack carrier-grade NFV platform allowing service providers to quickly and cost-effectively deploy new services.

GENBAND is a key Technology Partner in the HPE OpenNFV Program. This year at the recent Mobile World Congress in Barcelona we collaborated with HPE to demonstrate differentiated NFV solutions targeting mobile service providers. GENBAND’s virtualized Wireless Access Gateway and NFV Cloud Manager software was integrated onto the HPE Helion Open Stack Carrier-Grade NFV platform to demonstrate an elastic evolved Packet Data Gateway (ePDG) for Wi-Fi solutions for LTE.

We proudly joined the HPE OpenNFV Partner Program in 2014 as a Technology Partner and have since worked closely with HPE and other ecosystem partners to help bring about the true benefits of NFV. Technology Partners consist of a select number of technology companies and vendors that collaborate on innovation, integration and support for the HPE OpenNFV infrastructure stack based on recommendations from the European Telecommunications Standards Institute’s (ETSI) NFV Industry Specification Groups (ISG).

If you are attending NFV World Congress be sure to stop by GENBAND’s booth to see some of the differentiated solutions we are helping bring to market.
