HPE accelerates openness with the Linux Foundation Networking Fund
Openness has varied meanings but they all connect back to one goal: leveraging the power of community for collaborative development. Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) has been a strong supporter of open development through its partnerships, partner ecosystems and engagement in open source. Over the past several years, HPE has been a contributor and participant in a range of open source efforts including OpenStack, OPNFV, OpenDaylight, and more. These, along with other open source projects such as ONAP, address different aspects of software-defined infrastructure. HPE believes that cooperation and collaboration among such open source projects is essential to the successful open source realization of this infrastructure.
The Linux Foundation has supported the creation of several open source ecosystems over the years and currently hosts 9 of the 10 largest open source networking projects. Through their set of thriving global communities, these projects drive harmonization between open source and open standards with an eye towards supporting a range of emerging, network-dependent initiatives. The LF Networking Fund (LFN) is a combined administrative structure that will act as a platform for cross-project collaboration among the Linux Foundations communities, including OpenDaylight, OPNFV, ONAP, FD.io, PDNA, and SNAS. This new structure will form the basis of collaboration across the network stack, from the data plane into the control plane, to orchestration, automation, end-to-end testing, and more. HPE is excited to be among the industry leaders who are partnering to drive these projects forward and has joined the LF Networking Fund, together with communication service providers representing more than 60 percent of global mobile subscribers, enterprise vendors, systems integrators, and cloud providers.
HPE continues to support open source initiatives through this membership as well as other open source and standard developing organizations. HPE is participating in these important industry initiatives to accelerate the realization of an open software-defined infrastructure, specifically the evolution of network functions virtualization (NFV) and MANO. By leveraging our knowledge and experience defining the ETSI MANO standards, HPE is helping to accelerate the harmonization between ETSI and ONAP. Real transformation requires partnerships and by working together with these communities, we can collectively move our industry forward at a faster pace. Letโs contribute, collaborate and bring next-generation technologies to the masses!
