The Wild Wide West of Mobile Apps


Last week, I was watching this old western on the classic movie channel and I was quiet amazed by the analogy of one behavior of the cowboys of these not so long ago times, versus our modern days. They were putting their guns on the table when meeting in a saloon for a drink or a poker game. This behavior was primarily limited to men. I am sure that you have noticed, like me, that when patrons are sitting at a table in a restaurant, the first action is to put their smart phones on the table (and this is valid for ladies and gentlemen). A demonstration of power, importance, and the need to always be connected.


Many IT departments are also seeing mobility as creating the “Wild West” within an organization. The old rules that required employees to use only a certain kind of mobile device have been replaced by BYOD (bring your own device). Mobile applications have become a way of life, and the line between consumer expectations and how we expect to get work done has blurred. Enterprises are pursuing mobile application strategies to keep up with competition (externally) and increase productivity (internally), but many need guidance and help from service providers who can offer full managed mobility services support over all phases of the mobile applications lifecycle.

Six key steps to develop five-star enterprise mobile applications

6. Monitor, manage, and analyze the mobile application ecosystem and its effectiveness through detailed usage reporting.
