Turning Smart Ideas into Smart Cities with IoT Devices

CEC India launch-2.jpg

Author: Brent MacDonald

To meet the needs of their growing populations, cities need to become dramatically more efficient. We are witnessing a revolutionary trend in which Smart Cities, using Internet of Things (IoT) devices such as connected sensors, lights, and meters to improve infrastructure, public utilities and services are starting to become the norm in the major metropolitan areas of the world.

However IoT ecosystems are complex and fragmented. Understanding the scope of what can be achieved with IoT is challenging. HPE has just made it easier for customers and partners with the offer of a real-world experience of smart city solutions. It has launched a Customer Experience Centre (CEC) based in Gurugram India which shows a clear path through Smart City initiatives.

The CEC is designed to demonstrate and develop IoT-based Smart City solutions for customers and partners across the country. This state-of-the-art facility has been tailor made to accelerate the development of Smart Cities in India and help customers get a real-world experience of solutions such as eHealth Center, City Surveillance, ICT based Solid Waste Management System, Integrated Command and Control Center. The CEC will showcase how smart solutions are capable of solving some of the challenges that cities are currently facing with interactive demonstrations of new age IoT based solutions, machine learning and analytics at edge.

We believe it will also accelerate time to value for governments and city administrators by streamlining the delivery of innovative and interactive services. It will assist in implementing an infrastructure that interconnects the complex components of the end-to-end IoT solutions. As well, the CEC will enable System Integrators and solution providers to experience cutting-edge technologies first hand that can help in the seamless deployment of smart city projects across the country.

HPE India MD Som Satsangi said โ€œThe vision of the governmentโ€™s smart citiesโ€™ mission is to improve the quality of life of every citizen in the countryโ€ and that the CEC will โ€œhelp governments leverage technology to reduce the time it takes to turn smart ideas into smart cities.โ€

And to illustrate the importance and timeliness of this CEC launch, I can share a real-life example. HPE India has announced that Bhopal Smart City Development Corporation Ltd. has selected our HPE Universal Internet of Things (UIoT) Platform to create Indiaโ€™s first cloud-based Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC). The UIoT platform has multitenancy capabilities making it possible to run multiple city command centre operations in parallel. Concretely, the centre will enable the monitoring and administration of multiple civic utilities and citizen services in each of these cities through a central cloud. It will also allow for state-wide monitoring of cities from a central command view.

I encourage you to take a look at the details of this exciting project:
