Ranking Overview
What
The short phrase that appears with your username in your posts is your rank in the community.
Why
Ranks are used to reflect the volume, quality, and impact of your contributions to the community. At first, logging in and reading posts and blog articles in the community drives your ranking.
As you move to higher levels, the interactions with your fellow community members are weighted much higher in your ranking. Rather than just reading posts and articles, adding new information or suggested solutions, feedback to and from fellow community members (Kudos or Accepted Solutions) have increased impact on your ranking.
You can help a fellow community member move to a higher rank by marking a post with a Kudo, and if the information in the post solves your issue, please consider marking it as an Accepted Solution. Your peers in the community will do the same for you.
How
The community has a distinct set of ranking steps which recognize your strengths in collecting, contributing, or offering advice within the threads on which you participate. It is not unlike climbing a series of ladders, each of which rewards a particular contribution style.
You will begin as a “New Member”, and depending on how often you visit and what you contribute, will move through the following rankings:
- New Member
- Occasional Visitor
- Visitor
- Frequent Visitor
- Regular Visitor
- Member
- Established Member
- Senior Member
Through your contributions to the community and recognition thereof, you will enter the next part of the ladder:
- Occasional Collector
- Occasional Contributor
- Occasional Advisor
- Collector
- Contributor
- Advisor
- Frequent Collector
- Frequent Contributor
- Frequent Advisor
- Regular Collector
- Regular Contributor
- Regular Advisor
- Super Collector
- Super Contributor
- Super Advisor
After navigating these steps, you will progress to the “Super User” part of the ladder:
- Valued Contributor
- Trusted Contributor
- Respected Contributor
- Esteemed Contributor
- Honored Contributor
- Outstanding Contributor
- Acclaimed Contributor
- Exalted Contributor

Re: Ranking Overview
Great thanks for that.. I wouldnt mind knowing excatly how/when the ranking works..Like some sort of progress meter or something.
Is it based on kudos recieved. Posts posted, solutions posted or time spent online.

What you asked has been asked before :-) with no definitive disclosure. See my observations (and conclusion) here:
At seems that the raw number of posts made determines your ranking label.

Welcome. There is a HELP link at the top right of the page with sub-links to "Getting Started", "Posting Messages", "Accepted Solutions" and "Kudos".

Great, now I have a ribbon I do not want and my Name is in shiny purple - I should start uploading videos from a vt100 terminal how to type the commands instead of answering questions.

How do people get the "HP Pro" ranking?

Re: Ranking Overview
So being an "Occasional Collector" means? Are these designations a method of encouraging more participation in the forums?

One step above "Senior Member", on the Collector ladder.
You seem to have a lot of blog comments.

Exactly.

Re: Ranking Overview
The purpose of our ranking system is to reflect both the level of participation, and its value to the Community at large. Not only will a higher rank encourage increased engagement, but it also reflects a growing reputation.
The terms like "Visitor", "Collector", "Advisor", "Contributor" reflect advancing levels of participation. It is not just how often you visit the Community, how many posts you have, but the impact those posts have on your peers' success.
All of these elements go into the ranking system.

I guess it's incorrect. I've seen a lot of users here who are clearly HP Employees (me included), but they have the same rank as other common users.

I didn't say they were equivalence classes but subsets of them. I.e. perhaps they participated in an Expert Day?

Maybe there are subsets of them but I think they are somehow related to the forum admins. As I said I'm an HP employee but I have nothing different than a common user :)

Subsets of HP employees and you're not in that subset. :-)
Admins are typically not SMEs/Pros unless Neighborhood Admins like chuckk281.
I also see HP Expert, not sure the difference between that and HP Pro.
