Friday roundup: Software-defined Data Center at VMworld

on ‎08-29-2014 02:40 PM

Looking back at the news out of the VMworld conference this week, it’s abundantly clear that the once-nebulous software-defined data center (SDDC) model is rapidly gaining definition and traction.

HP showcased its software-defined capabilities in the HP-VMware networking solution, evidence that the longtime partnership with VMware is thriving. The same can hardly be said for the Cisco-VMware alliance, which is now clearly falling apart, according to a guest post at HP Networking blog – a real eye-opener, this one: Are Cisco and VMware signing divorce papers?

For a deep look at the architecture of the HP-VMware networking solution, check out John Gray’s post Bridging the virtual/physical network divide in the software-defined data center (SDDC)

In Leading the Way to the Software-defined Data Center, Paul Miller explains how the network solution fits into the bigger SDDC picture and how the management stack extends to the Cloud.

Open standards and interoperability are pillars of HP’s vision for SDDC. Converged Infrastructure blogger Ken Spear adds to those the value of simplicity in this post: Open + Simple = the HP and VMware Strategy for the Software-Defined Data Center
