From Mainstage at RedHat Summit: The Path to Simplified IT Operations

Congratulations to Red Hat on a successful Summit with many exciting sessions! I very much enjoyed the live game demonstration incorporating machine learning across multiple hybrid cloud environments, and also found the on-stage performances of the young generation truly inspiring, being very impressed by the children who shared their skills: for example the phenomenal session of the girl who showed us her coding skills on her 11th birthday. Isnโ€™t this a clear sign of how the times have changed?

Two Crucial Factors in the Future of Tech

In my own keynote, I looked at the speed of change, the complexities that have come with it, and how all the applications we are using day in day out have been developed within a flourishing ecosystem of micro-services and apps that generate and consume vast amounts of data.

We are even at a point where the metadata, i.e. the data that describes the data, is just as valuable as the data itself, and can drive insights and decisions on how a particular data stream gets handled and where it can bring value.

These will continue to offer opportunities as well as challenges to how we architect and run applications and services, and how we treat the data that flows through them. Itโ€™s often optimal to move the service closer to the data source rather than only pool data in a central location, which is why it is expected that more than 70% of data will reside at the edge by 2022*. The emergence of the edge is the next revolution after the cloud.

The Future of Workloads

Embracing services in the public cloud is a key component for digital transformation that offers many advantages, but can be challenging due to complexities and overwhelming number of choices. Together with Red Hat, we have a strong opportunity to address those complexities, and rapidly deliver outcomes that are demanded by the business and deliver business value.

When I think about how we are helping our customers, software-defined automation is at the heart of how we build and operate enterprise workloads. Our HPE platforms provide a software-defined, composable, infrastructure-as-code approach to defining compute, networking and storage. Today we are automating the delivery of container and orchestration platforms such as Docker and Kubernetes and are creating powerful and intelligent software-defined workload architectures to support cloud native, analytics, AI and IoT applications.

Our HPE Pointnext team has created a new solution that allows clients to rapidly deploy AI and machine learning use cases such as HPE Digital Prescriptive Maintenance to help customers leverage insights from their machine sensor data and predict failures 30 days in advance of an outage. In addition, we have created the Ansible automation and helm charts (software-defined workload architecture) to rapidly deploy the solution on or off premise with Kubernetes.

HPE & RedHat Collaborate

Red Hatโ€™s enterprise-grade OpenShift Kubernetes platform is an industry leading solution we can utilize to help IT organizations develop, deploy, and manage these workloads. In addition to the recent Red Hat OpenShift on HPE Synergy announcement, we are developing services and automated solutions to help our clients scale platforms and workloads on demand and more importantly operate with confidence.

*Gartner predicts that by 2022, as a result of digital business projects, 75% of enterprise-generated data will be created and processed outside the traditional, centralized data center or cloud, which is an increase from todayโ€™s less than 10%.
