Why the big buzz around Software-defined Networking?

There’s big news out of VMworld in San Francisco today, with the announcement of the general availability of the HP-VMware networking solution as both a standalone and as part of HP Converged Systems. The solution, which federates HP’s VAN SDN controller with VMware’s NSX network virtualization platform, is a huge step forward for Software-defined Networking (SDN).
