Memory Channel Cables

Memory Channel Cables

Greetings,

This is actually a hardware question. We have a 5-node TruCluster consisting of five ES45s so obviuosly we're using Memory Channel Hubs. We're planning on reducing the cluster down to two nodes. I would like to eliminate the MC Hubs and wire the Memory Channels directly to the two ES45s.

My question is can I use the existing MC Cables to do this? I vaguely remember someone telling me you had to different model MC cable when wiring MC directly between two servers.

Thanks,
Vic

Re: Memory Channel Cables

Hi Vic,

Yes, you can use the existing cables.

The one thing you do have to do is to set the jumpers on the Memory Channel cards to be in Virtual Hub mode.

Cheers,

Re: Memory Channel Cables

Thank Rob. Totally forgot about the jumpers on the Memory Channel cards that have to be in Virtual Hub mode. Happen to know where to look for a diagram of it and how to set it. My appempts to find something failed. We're using Card Model FCA-2354.

Thanks,
Vic

Re: Memory Channel Cables

Hi Vic,

You should be able to find the memory channel manuals here: (although it appears to be offline at the time of writing).

The part number you've quoted is for a Fibre Channel card, not the Memory Channel card. Those would probably be CCMAB-BA.

A quick note on the cabling again, it's possible that you may have the copper to fibre converter modules on the Memory Channel cards, but again the cables required would be the same.

Re: Memory Channel Cables

Rob,

The 1st link comes up Document Not Found.

I have no idea how to check the type of MC we have. I'll assume it's the one you mention.

Re: Memory Channel Cables

Hi Vic,

You should be able to find details of the jumpers here, if the previous link doesn't come back:
