Re: RAID0+1,RAID1+0

Yes you can. Is documented on HP StorageWorks
HSG80 ACS Solution Software V8.8 for Tru64 UNIX, but the hp search engine is too bad and I cannot find it.

Configuring a Striped Mirrorset

Create, but do not initialize, at least two mirrorsets.

Create a stripeset and specify the mirrorsets it contains:

ADD STRIPESET STRIPESET-NAME MIRRORSET-1
MIRRORSET-2....MIRRORSET-N

Initialize the striped mirrorset, specifying any desired switches:

INITIALIZE STRIPESET-NAME SWITCH

Verify the striped mirrorset configuration:

SHOW STRIPESET-NAME

For example:

ADD MIRRORSET MIRR1 DISK10000 DISK20000
ADD MIRRORSET MIRR2 DISK20100 DISK10100
ADD MIRRORSET MIRR3 DISK10200 DISK20200
ADD STRIPESET STRIPE1 MIRR1 MIRR2 MIRR3
INITIALIZE STRIPE1
SHOW STRIPE1

Re: RAID0+1,RAID1+0

That is not documented. Also, is better a 1+0 because you can loose more disks.

Why do you want that specifically. You have the same performance.

Re: RAID0+1,RAID1+0

Last time I checked, the HSG firmware does not allow you to mirror stripesets.

Striped mirrorsets are better, because you loose use a single disk drive and the controller need only to recover the affected mirrorset.

If you loose the disk drive from a stripeset on the HSG, you need to delete the stripeset and recreate/ reinitialize to write current metadata to all members.

My experience is that it depends on the meta data that is on the disk(s) - I have had situations where I had to INITIALIZE at least one of the disk drives; otherwise the controller did not let me INITIALIZE the stripeset.

Re: RAID0+1,RAID1+0

Hi,

Uwe is right. You can only add mirrorsets to a stripeset and not the other way around.

Re: RAID0+1,RAID1+0

To mirror stripes you will have to use LSM to mirror the stripes on the HSG80. Or use LSM to both mirror and stripe.

But as everyone else has said already, stripped mirrors are better from an availability point of view. Performance is about equal between the two.

many thanks to all,
no way to mirror stripeset.
