add disk to domain

Hi All,
running trucluster V5.1A,pk1
I have a domain domain_1 with dsk1c,dsk2c
I want to use large disks(dsk3c,dsk4c)
instead of dsk1c,dsk2c
can I do
#addvol /dev/disk/dsk3c domain_1
#addvol /dev/disk/dsk4c domain_1
then
#rmvol dsk1c domain_1
#rmvol dsk2c domain-1
please advise
I do it becouse I need space on storage.
many thanks.

Re: add disk to domain

This should work OK.
Maybe I would do:
#addvol /dev/disk/dsk3c domain_1
#rmvol dsk1c domain_1
#addvol /dev/disk/dsk4c domain_1
#rmvol dsk2c domain_1
I see no reason you can not do it.
Do it when machines are not heavy loaded.

Re: add disk to domain

Also, run 'balance' at the end to evenly spread the data across the available disks.

Re: add disk to domain

I agree with the prior responses, and your own sentiment, that you can do it, but why?

If you have any time window where you can slow down access, then why not just
- create new domain on 3 & 4
- create same named filesets in 3 & 4
- copy data
- unmount filesets on domain on disk 1 & 2
- (re)mount new filesets with copy on old mountpoints.
- start using with the reassuring knowledge that you have a backup on disk 1 & 2.
- do this instead of a normal full backup, and no extra time is lost.

My tool of choice for the copy would be dump/restore. Something like:

/sbin/vdump 0uf - /old | (cd /new; /sbin/vrestore xf -)

You could also use tar in a similar piped way, or copy -pR (for some cases)

Maybe there are interesting hints in the Tru64 best practices docs?
