import domain

I want to import the data from server2 to server1.
Situation before:
Server 1 (ES47 and storage bay with 4-discs containing the domains dom1, dom2, DOM3, dom4)
Server2 (ES47 and storage bay with 11 disks containing the domains dom1, dom2, DOM3, dom4, dom5).
NB: the names are identical.
Current status:
Server2 is unavailable (because in another site)
We would like to import data from the storage bay (11 disks) of Server2 in server1.

Re: import domain

are these two stogate mirrored??

or just domain names are sames.......
does storage connected to server 2 also available and you want to move the disks, or you can connect storage to server1.

You need to export the dg and import it with another dgname

vxdg -n new_dgname import diskgroup

And then you can mount the FS on the server.

So what DO you have available?
- Do you have the storage bay moved to your site?
- do you have backup media (tapes)?

Re: import domain

Hi,

How is the storage configured at the hardware level ?

If the storage bay is connected to a hardware controller, we would need to know the model of that controller...

# showfdmn dom1 (2,3,4)

would be useful to see if you don't know that information, as would

# hwmgr view dev

Cheers,

Rob

P.S. The vxdg command mentioned previously is incorrect, unless Veritas have started doing Tru64 file systems...

Re: import domain

in response to Pieter 't hart,

-So what DO you have available?
server1 with the two bays connected.
- Do you have the storage bay moved to your site?
yes the bay (11) is actualy connected to the server (1)
- do you have backup media (tapes)? yes

So, i want to import data from the storage bay (11 disks) of Server2 in server1. but we have the same Domain name on the two bays.

What is the process to do that operation?

Re: import domain

Hi,

You can work around this by manually creating new domains by creating directories under /etc/fdmns

For example:

# cd /etc/fdmns
# mkdir dom1_server2
# cd dom1_server2
# ln -s /dev/disk/dskX

where dskX is the disk device associated with domain. Bear in mind that the disk device names are likely to be different on server1 than they were on server2.

# showfsets -k dom1_server2

should then show the file sets that make up the domain.

Do not use mkfdmn. That will remove the "metadata" from the physical disk and make the data unreadable.

Cheers,

Rob

Re: import domain

I said that serve2 is unvailable. and the bay2(disk) of server2 is actualy connected to server1. But i don't see the data from the bay2 and there are the same domain name created in the two bays (1 and 2). how can i change the domain name on the bay 2 without problem?

Re: import domain

That's what I've tried to explain.

Without knowing the exact hardware configuration it will be difficult to say for certain...

Can you post the exact configuration.

What is the "Storage Bay" ?
How is connected to the server ?
How many physical disks are involved ?
Are they connected to a RAID controller ?

Posting the output of:

# hwmgr view dev
and
# hwmgr view hier

will help greatly.

Cheers,

Rob

Re: import domain

My Apologies for vxdg it should be voldg :)

Anyways I think I thought a lot, believed you are using LSM (long time worked on Tru64)

#df -k

Rob just pointed the things correctly.

We would need to know if out of 11 disks how many each domain was having and reate the directories as suggested by ROB.

We would also need to know which disk is which because the name would change once you connect the storage to server.
