Install Windows 2008 Server and RHEL5.0 as a HPVM guests

Hello All,

I have installed the Integrity HPVM B.04.20 in HP UX 11.31 host. I need to install Windows 2008, RHEL 5.0 and HP-UX as the guests. I have configured Ignite-UX for installing the HP-UX. For Windows and linux, i have the ISO files. I have created the dvd iso disk for the ISO's and mounted that.

This is the DVDROM with windows 2008 server ISO mounted -
"dvd:scsi::file:/disk/X15-41116.iso"

If i boot the guest and select the CDROM to install, it shows as load failed.

I got this same error for windows 2008 server and RHEL 5.

Is there any other ways to install the guests with ISO images. Please Advise.

Thanks in Advance.

are these ISO images done using the IA64 bit versions?
Also, what is the error mesage you get?

Hi Melvyn ,

NO, The Windows 2008 Server is i386 and the RHEL image is x84_64.

Re: Install Windows 2008 Server and RHEL5.0 as a HPVM guests

Shalom,

Windows 2008 Server is supported on 4.10 and 4.20 HPVM. 4.10 HPVM is the only release that apparently supports Windows 2003 and 2008. You need IA64 versions, but those are readily available.

There is full support for IA64 RHEL 5.

Your iso problem happens when more than one machine mount the iso image. You need to hpvmmodify the system after installation and take away that DVD to get the second install to work.

iso mount is the only way I've ever done the install.

Re: Install Windows 2008 Server and RHEL5.0 as a HPVM guests

Hi,

To add more, we did mounted the ISOs of Itanium versions for Windows Server 2008 and RHEL and tried booting it, but we get the error message as showed in the screen-shot attached.

While trying to boot the RHEL ISO, it uncompresses the Linux ....
and loads the initrd.img file..
Nothing happens and it stuck right there.

Any suggesstions would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I have same problem as you and get the same error you attached.

I use the boot able smart start CD and boot from it and follow that installation procedures .
this problem will solved.

You don't need smartstart, you need smartsetup anf ia64 software versions!

Re: Install Windows 2008 Server and RHEL5.0 as a HPVM guests

Shalom,

I did this install without any additional software.

I set the RHEL IA64 DVD up as an iso image sitting in:
-a dvd:scsi::file:/var/opt/hpvm/ISO-images/Linux/DVD-iso

As part of the hpvmcreate process.

Then you start the system hpvmstart, use hpvmconsole to connect to the console and go through the install process normally.
