Re: Iteanium processor information related to different series and cores

You can start reading here:

http://h71028.www7.hp.com/enterprise/cache/80518-0-0-0-121.aspx?jumpid=go/integrity

or here

http://docs.hp.com/en/hw.html

A lot of information and links:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Itanium

Current chips (Montecito and Montevale) are dual core, previous are single core. A very special is "Hondo", two single cores in a single slot.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Hi Torsten,

Thanks for reply.
I am confused between dies/device and cores/dies.
Is it possible to explaine it little bit...

You can also use the machinfo(1) command to give details of your current machine.

Re: Iteanium processor information related to different series and cores

Some very general/basic information:

A die is a single piece of material, see
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Die_(integrated_circuit)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Integrated_circuit

A core is a single CPU (more or less), you can have multiple cores on a single die, see

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Processor_core

Hope this helps!

Torsten.
