Onlinediag x HPVM

Hi All,
If I am running HP Virtual Machines, should I install Onlinediag on the VM host only or also on the VM guests?
Any ideas or docs about?

Online Diagnostics should be run on the machine that actually owns the hardware, the host.

I would not trust the results from the guests, they think they own the hardware, but they really do not.

Online diagnostics is monitoring real hardware - not virtual hardware.

According to the manual:

Do not run the following types of applications on a guest:

â ¢ Integrity VM software
â ¢ Hardware diagnostic tools and support tools (should be run on the VM Host)
â ¢ Utility pricing tools (run on the VM Host)
â ¢ Capacity planning tools (run on the VM Host)
â ¢ Applications that require direct access to physical hardware (for example, disaster-tolerant
solutions)
â ¢ Multipath storage solutions
â ¢ SAN Management tools and applications that require access to serial interfaces (Integrity
VM virtualizes SCSI and Ethernet devices only)
â ¢ Auto port aggregation (APA)

You should NOT run anything that is trying to look at real hardware on a VM Guest OS.
So in short, no do not install the Online Diags on any Guests
