Hi,

We have 4 VMs in one host and mapping LTO5 tape drive to that hosts.

Our object is, need to take the all the 4 VMs data (SAP is running) backup on daily basis.

So suppose we are connecting the one drive to the hosts and that tape drive, can we assign to all the VMs at a time as a sharable basis?

Yes you can share tape between VM. Assuming, of course, that you have a central backup solution that manages access policies to the backup system.

You will find a whole description in the documentation "HP Integrity Virtual Machines 4.2 - Installation, Configuration, and Administration", ( http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c02023903/c02023903.pdf ) chapter 7.1.3 "Attached Device Support in AVIO".

In a summary, you must use AVIO drivers and attach_path method. For example :

-a tape:avio_stor::attach_path:0/7/1/1.0x500104f00048b29e.0x0

Karki, be aware that, in my knowledge, there is no "attach_path" method under HPVM 4.0.

As far as I know it came with HPVM 4.1. Described only in HPVM 4.1 Relesease notes.
