Re: Which kind of resource can be added to or removed from the running vpar?

You can add or remove dynamic CPUs and memory; add or remove disks or other drives to/from existing busses, do OLRAD if the slot is already assigned to the vPar. To assign or remove a slot or cell, you need to shutdown the vPar.

Hope this helps!

Note that the above answer is valid for vpars v5 but not for v6.

For vpars v6 only the cpu can be modified online and also disk luns as long as there is free slot

in the virtual HBA.

Re: Which kind of resource can be added to or removed from the running vpar?

I agree, but the thread and the title was modified recently - in the first version it was "Which kind of resource can be added to or removed from the running vpar?" - WITHOUT vPars6.0 and the server model.

So what I wrote applies to vPars up to version 5, but not all features apply to the current SD2 :-(

[EDIT - added]:

Since vPars 6.0 runs on blades, you cannot add physical resource (e.g. HBA)  to the server online.

The manual perfectly answers your (new) question:

Modifying CPUresourcesтАУdynamically

In vParsv6.0,you can modify only the CPU cores dynamically. You can change the CPU core count of a vPar while it is running. You need not reboot the vPar after youmodify the CPU core count.

Modifying memory and I/O resourcesтАУstatically

To modify the memory size and the I/O devices of a vPar, the vPar must be in the DOWN run state. After you modify the memory and I/O, reboot the vPar. As an exception, an individual storage device can be added to the virtual partition, as long as a free target exists on an existing virtual partition device. If all target addresses on a device are full, and a new device must be added, the virtual partition must be in the DOWN state to add that device.

Hope this helps!

Hi Torsten,

Thank you for the answer, But my Vpar version is 6.0, which is just released. I think your information is only useful to the old versions

Waiting for the answer.
