hello all,
the web page for "Integrity VM AVIO Software":
https://h20392.www2.hp.com/portal/swdepot/displayProductInfo.do?productNumber=AVIO
mentiones that "Customers using HP-UX Virtual Partitions v6.0, or Integrity VM 4.3 January 2012 Patch Release, should install the January 2012 AVIO web release (B.11.31.1201). This release supports N-Port ID Virtualization (NPIV)." and "For more details about AVIO, NPIV, and Integrity VM 4.3, please refer to the HP Integrity Virtual Memory 4.3: Release Notes (January 2012), which can be found at http://www.hp.com/go/hpux-hpvm-docs" -> what is "virtual memory 4.3" nobody knows....
the above mentioned site http://www.hp.com/go/hpux-hpvm-docs contains the release notes for HP-UX VPARS (January 2012) *instead* of the Integrity VM 4.3 release notes (January 2012). moreover the OFFICIAL integrity VM site (quick specs) mentions that the last shipping veriosn is "HP Integrity VM (HP-UX 11i v3 VM Host) v4.2" -> WTF??? HP??? is this a retired product?
can anyone help me find the Integrity VM 4.3 Release notes (January 2012)?
greetings,
Stoyan

Solution>> what is "virtual memory 4.3" nobody knows....
Yeah that's a typo - I'll report it.
>> "Customers using HP-UX Virtual Partitions v6.0, or Integrity VM 4.3 January 2012 Patch Release, should install the January 2012 AVIO web release (B.11.31.1201). This release supports N-Port ID Virtualization (NPIV)."
And the January 2012 Patch Release of HPVM4.3 (otherwise known as HPVM4.3 Patch Kit 2 - PK2) is not yet released, - it comes out any day now. So any existing version of HPVM4.3 that you may have isn't going to be HPVM4.3 PK2. Which means you needn't install that latest AVIO release (although it will do no harm). I would expect the patches and the release notes to appear at roughly the same time.
>> moreover the OFFICIAL integrity VM site (quick specs) mentions that the last shipping veriosn is "HP Integrity VM (HP-UX 11i v3 VM Host) v4.2" -> WTF??? HP??? is this a retired product?
No. The QuickSpecs are out of date - whether thats because they have been rolled into another QS, or updates haven't been published for some reason, I'm not sure - again I'll report it and see what response I get.
>> can anyone help me find the Integrity VM 4.3 Release notes (January 2012)?
You'll have to be patient - they will come when the patches come.
The thing is, AVIO used to be just for HPVMs, but it is now also used by the new vPars 6 stack as well, so the new AVIO drivers were released for vPars, and they will also be used with HPVM4.3 PK2 when released.

Re: integrity vm 4.3 January 2012 release
thank you Duncan!
finally a reasonable answer.
the public site offers outdated information, it is faster to get "support" using the forums then via a support contract... what a mess.

Re: integrity vm 4.3 January 2012 release
... but sometimes there are the same people answering your questions here or on the "official" phone ... but they just can't correct an obviously wrong information published on the web.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

"... but they just can't correct an obviously wrong information published on the web."
the web? who's web?
obviously it is hp's own web. looking from the outside i can see only the public site and the broken information published there, and not the few people knowing about the problem but having no way of fixing it for whatever reason.

Re: integrity vm 4.3 January 2012 release
The 2 documentation issues (typo on AVIO page, and out of date QuickSpecs) have been reported to their relevant owners within HP - I can't tell you how quickly they'll be fixed, but the right people know they need fixing now.

Re: integrity vm 4.3 January 2012 release
The Jan 2012 release notes are now available:
http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c03168513/c03168513.pdf
Also the typo on the AVIO page at software.hp.com has been fixed.
The QuickSpecs are still out of date, but I guess its a bigger job bringing them up to date.
