3 X 1810G-24 & 1 X 2824 Help Design.

Hi Guys,

Would someone please comment on which was is best for setting up the below swithcs.

We have one primary switch located in the server room which is a HP 2824 (all servers patched directly into this switch) from here we have 6 network cables routed through to the Comms Room.

In the Comms we have 3 x HP 1810g/24 (all client pc's pathced into these)

We have no VLANs just one flat network.

I'm setting up 3 trunks from the main to switch located in the server room to the 3 switchs in the Comms Room (Trk1, Trk2, Trk3)

The 2824 has RSTP enabled with all default settings.

All 3 of the 1810 switchs have Loop Protection enabled on all ports with again default Settings.

What i'd like to know is if the above is a correct design and also if i should be setting up any trunks/or anything between the 3x 1810's.

I've attached a basic diagram.

Please feel free to comenet.

The configuration is good, IMHO you can improve it by adding a backup connection between the users switches. (see attached file)

Thanks,

Are they just standard link connections, or is there any trunks etc involved.

IF you have enough ports, You can define a trunk, but isn't necessary, because is only a backup connection

Thanks

sorry to be so dumb but do you mean just simply patchin a network cable to each switch and thats it.

we have plenty of spare ports

Re: 3 X 1810G-24 & 1 X 2824 Help Design.

Just plug a cable between the switches, thats all. To check if the backup works, just unplug the trunk from one of the users' switch and check if the users' switch from you unplugged the trunk can work.

In fact, what this does, is using spanning tree.

Good luck,

Sorry, forgot to mention, i was unsure of this because I cant find the STP feature on the 1810g's, but i'm presumming its called Loop Protection now, is that right ?

No. Loop protection is NOT the same as full STP. LP much easier.
