HPE 1920S cant get routing to work :(

Hi there!

I read a lot of tuts and howtos, but i cant get routing to work.

I enabled global routing, i created two vlans.

101 - IP 192.168.1.1 / 255.255.255.0 with a 192.168.1.0/24 network behind

201 - IP 192.168.4.1 / 255.255.255.0 with a 192.168.4.0/24 network behind

The ipv4 routes are shown als 192.168.1.0 / 255.255.255.0 / 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.4.0 / 255.255.255.0 / 192.168.4.1

There is a fritzbox (just as an ip client) with ip 192.168.4.2 in vlan 201 and a normal pc in vlan 101 with ip 192.168.1.114 with gateay set to 192.168.1.254

A tracert on the 192.168.1.114 pc to 192.168.4.2 shows a route to the gateay 192.168.4.1 but then gets lost. the pc gets now route to the 192.168.4.2

When did i wrong? Where do i have do check something? I am trying to get this work for 2 days know.

Hi @buzzer8 !

Both PC and Fritzbox should use IP addresses of 1920S as their default gateways. Otherwise traffic doesn't go over the 1920S.

Correct settings:

PC: 192.168.10.114 mask 255.255.255.0 gateway 192.168.10.1
FritzBox: 192.168.4.2 mask 255.255.255.0 gateway 192.168.4.1

Sorry., my bad. The pc has for sure the gateway 192.168.10.1

At the fritzbox i cant set the gateway (because fritzbox normal is the gateway). So i put an android tablett with 192.168.4.4 / 255.255.255.0 / 192.168.4.1

The tablett can ping 192.168.4.1

The tablett CANT ping 192.168.4.2 (the fritzbox) BUT is in the same vlan (port is in vlan, i double checked it)

Thinking that this is only a android tablett, i set another pc up with 192.168.4.5 / 255.255.255.0 / 192.168.4.1. And it shows the same, as the tablett. The pc can ping 192.168.4.1.. The pc CANT ping the fritzbox and also not the android tablett. 

So in the vlan there is not only no routing, but also no communication between the vlan members. 

I am crying again

Another try.

Fritzbox 192.168.1.1 with IPV4 Route 192.168.4.0 / 255.255.255.0 to gw 192.168.1.254

HP 1920s VLAN 101 with virtual ip 192.168.1.254

HP 1920s VLAN 201 with virtual IP 192.168.4.254

Fritzbox attached to VLAN 101

PC attached to VLAN 101 with ip 192.168.1.114 / 255.255.255.0 gw 192.168.1.1

PC attached to VLAN 201 with ip 192.168.4.5 / 255.255.255.0 gw 192.168.4.254

 

tracert at pc from 192.168.1.114 to 192.168.4.5 goes to

fritzbox 192.168.1.1

virtual vlan 101 ip 192.168.1.254

and after that it gets lost.

And this is my problem, that the router doesnt route.

Shouldnt the tracert go this way 192.168.1.1 -> 192.168.1.254 -> 192.168.4.254 -> 192.168.4.5 ?

I dont know what to do. Can you help me please?

Where is this PC connected - Fritzbox or 1920S? And why the default gateway is 192.168.1.1 and not 192.168.1.254?

The PC and the fritzbox, both are connected to the 1920s in VLAN 101.

The gateway for the pc is 192.168.1.1 (the fritzbox), because the 192.168.1.0/24 is my main network and the pc should also work (get to the internet and so), if i switch of or detach the 1920s. Thats why my gateway is the fritzbox 192.168.1.1, which routes 192.168.4.0/24 to 192.168.1.254 (the 1920s in vlan 101) and should route to 192.168.4.254 (vlan 201), but it doesnt

By the way, if i set the gateway of the pc (in vlan 101) to 192.168.1.254 (the virtual ip of vlan 101) then tracert starts at 192.168.1.254 and directly gets lost. Its the same, my 1920s doesnt route
