Procurve 1410 24G traffic analysis?

We have a newly installed 1410 24G switch in a 10 user LAN. Almost daily the switch has to be unplugged and plugged back in because the client loses internet access. Unplugging the switch fixes the problem but it stops everything, too.

Is there any reporting tool(s) for this switch that will let me look at the traffic on this thing? What would cause a switch to lose capabilities like this that power cycling would fix?

This has happened with the previous netgear switch we replaced with this 1410.

Hi isdpcman,

If it happened with both switches, it's highly unlikely to actually be the switch that is at fault, and rebooting it is simply masking the problem.  You need to gather more data to narrow down the cause, but some things it might be are:

  • cabling
  • duplicate IP addresses
  • NIC drivers
  • incorrect configuration on PCs or gateway

That's just a start - there could be other reasons as well.

Paul,

Would you please supply an answer to isdpcman's question in paragraph two, first sentence.

Thanks.
