Updating HP 1910-24G to newest firmware makes it reboot indefinitely
Hello,
We have some spare 3Com switches (Original name : Baseline switch 2928 SFP Plus) that we want to use. After reseting them, I saw that their firmware was rater old (from 2010). So decided to update them before doing anything whith them.
Downloaded latest bin files from here : https://h10145.www1.hp.com/downloads/SoftwareReleases.aspx?ProductNumber=JE006A&lang=&cc=&prodSeriesId=&SoftwareReleaseUId=9638&SerialNumber=&PurchaseDate=
Everything went ok, rom is updated correctely, and the application file seems also good (those two things uses the same .bin file). But now the switch keeps rebooting endlessly. It passes the boot phase (new boot firmware), decompresse image, loads it, starts it... And reboot.
I can't understand why.
Does someone have an idea why?

Re: Updating HP 1910-24G to newest firmware makes it reboot indefinitely
Well this issue is now solved...
The R1516 firmware update is simply not compatible with 3COM models like our switches. What a shame. I was lucky it didn't turn my switch into a brick.
The solution here is to simply pick up the previous R1515 update.
It would have been great if HP had made a little note in the description of the firmware update. Made me lose hours of time.

Re: Updating HP 1910-24G to newest firmware makes it reboot indefinitely
I have the same problem. And it seems I was wrong in one of my former postings and I probably mix things in this posting. But there seem to be different hardware revisions of this single hardware with different software brandings and serial numbers :
- H3C S5120-SI => HP A5120-SI
- H3C E528[E552] => ?
- H3C S5120-LI => ?
- H3C S5120S-EI => ?
- H3C S5120-SI[E500] => ?
- 3Com 2952/2928 SFP Plus => HP V1910
If you go on H3C homepage and download the software for those switches, you could load each software release for each switch onto the other switch.
No problem in the past. But now here it is R1516 for V1910 on HPE´s homepage.
So I have:
- 3Com 2952/2928 SFP Plus without HP label with 3Com serial and part number for "display version"
- 3Com 2952/2928 SFP Plus with additional HP label with 3Com serial and part number for "display version"
- HP V1910 with 3Com serial and part number for "display version"
- HP V1910 with HP serial and part number for "display version"
- If updatinng an old untouched 3Com 2952/2928 SFP Plus with R1516 I get a boot loop.
- On one of my HP V1910 which showed as "H3C S5120-SI" in a former release I could boot R1516 with success
- On one of my HP V1910 which show with HP serial and part number for "display version", I only could update to R1515. It showed "invalid version" and had a boot loop with R1516
- If I "brand 1910" an origin 3Com 2952/2928 SFP Plus I can boot R1516P01
- ... ?
I had to go to the remote building in order to realize this. I won´t do any further updates remotely on this switches, even if their software is outdated.

Re: Updating HP 1910-24G to newest firmware makes it reboot indefinitely
I'm having same problem. I have a "HP" labled JG348A that was upgraded from R1513P89 to 1516 with no problems. Tried same on 2 different "3Com" labeled JE006A switches and got the boot loop on both. 1 was in production state, the 2nd I did a factory initialization on before upgrade with same results. Same boot loop as described in this thread. I had to get into boot manager Ctrl-B and roll it back to revious version then both were fine running previous firmware.
