Upgrade HPE 1950 (JH295A) firmware

Hy!

I have two HPE 1950 (JH295A) switch in IRF stack confiuguration. The current firmware is: 1950_12xgt-cmw710-boot-r5103p03 and 1950_12xgt-cmw710-system-r5103p03.

What is the suitable firmware file to our switches on this site?

https://techlibrary.hpe.com/OfficeConnect/?SKU=JH295A

Below the Software for 10-Gigabit Aggregation Switch?

Can I upgrade the switches on the GUI? I can access the IRF stacks virtual IP. Does it upgrade the two switch firmware? What is the correct upgrade process?

Thanks.

Re: Upgrade HPE 1950 (JH295A) firmware

Thanks for You fast reply.

When I start the upgrade procedure on the virtual ip of the irf stack, does it automatically upgrade the two member switch? Can I plan downtime during the upgrade? What is the upgrade process order?

Re: Upgrade HPE 1950 (JH295A) firmware

Hello,

Yes, you to plan a downtime because need to reboot both devices.

Upgrade via CLI using TFTP server.
1. Download the software image where TFTP server installed.
2. Set the ip on switch and transfer the file to switch flash via TFTP server.
3. Set main image in both devices slot 1 and slot 2.
4. Once image is set then save the config and reboot the switch.

This will upgrade one by one.

You can refer pg. 15 from release notes for upgrade steps via tFTP server.

https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=a00109606en_us

Similar way you can do it via GUI as well.

Device-->Upgrade-->View Software images

Go back to Device-->Upgrade-->Click on upgrade and upload the file into slot 1 and slot 2.

Both slot sould have same file and set new image as main image in boot-rom before reboot.

Thanks!

Re: Upgrade HPE 1950 (JH295A) firmware

I have another question. I downloaded the R5106P06 file, and it contains only .ipe file. I read the your attached document and there is a step 3, which conatin that upload the Boot ROM file from the tftp server, but there isn't this file. Where can I download it?

Hello,

Bootrom upgrade is not required into comware 7. You can ignore that step.

Thanks!

Thanks!

Are there any rollback plan/steps if something is wrong during the frimware upgrade?

Hello,

For rollback, you can set running software as back-up image for both the slots.

Thanks!

Re: Upgrade HPE 1950 (JH295A) firmware

Hy!

I find this on the IRF stack:

Software images on slot 1:
Current software images:
  flash:/1950_12xgt-cmw710-boot-r5103p03.bin
  flash:/1950_12xgt-cmw710-system-r5103p03.bin
Main startup software images:
  flash:/1950_12xgt-cmw710-boot-r5103p03.bin
  flash:/1950_12xgt-cmw710-system-r5103p03.bin
Backup startup software images:
  None
Software images on slot 2:
Current software images:
  flash:/1950_12xgt-cmw710-boot-r5103p03.bin
  flash:/1950_12xgt-cmw710-system-r5103p03.bin
Main startup software images:
  flash:/1950_12xgt-cmw710-boot-r5103p03.bin
  flash:/1950_12xgt-cmw710-system-r5103p03.bin
Backup startup software images:
  None

So the backup startup software images not set. Is it a risk during the firmware update? Should I set it to the:

flash:/1950_12xgt-cmw710-boot-r5103p03.bin
flash:/1950_12xgt-cmw710-system-r5103p03.bin

Thanks.
