Re: Difference between HP-UX and Solaris

Charles,
can you please clarify what sort of information you are after.
Are you looking for expected differences when recompiling the application, or performance differences (depends on which servers are used). Are you using POSIX shell?
As a start you may want to look at:

Hi Charles,

Maybe some of these links might help but if you are porting to Solaris then the Sun website would be the best place to start, there are a few links that might get you started.

This link is going to opposite to you but might help you.

Re: Difference between HP-UX and Solaris

Hi,
there are large number of differences :

-Drivers configuration easy on HP(menu driven), harder on Sun
-Disk configuration is very hard on Sun when you use F.Channel cards (patches).
-Software installation more stable on Sun
-Patches installation more stable on Sun except for VxVM :-(critical!
-Tunning quiet easier on HP than Sun
-NFS is faster on Sun but more configurable on HP
-System starting is different
-Compilations are more dificult on HP because more near C-ANSI than Sun whitch have a larger number of options.
- More softwares free on Sun
- HP is more stable in production environnement (HPUX run with 90% hardware swapping, SUN and IBM falldown before) and easier to update because VM is integrate in O.S. not on SUN
- On Sun you can start even if a fsck on VM structure is break, not on HP

It's easier to migrate from Sun to HP.
If you want to migrate, you should have time.

PS: Solaris doesn't have as nice a forum as HP-UX :)
