HP DL585 G1 w/ AMD 880's Blue Screen

Hello,

I got the infamous Blue Screen with the message:
Hardware malfunction
call your software vendor for support

There was no error code to give me an idea which subsystem to start looking in. We're running a burn-in test, so CPU/Memory/Disk are being hit hard. We have a Compaq Smart Array 5i RAID controller (don't see a chip id).

Any idea where I should start looking for the cause of the problem? The reboot appeared to report no error, and everything continues to appear to work fine.

Thanks,

Andrew

Andrew,
Most likely it is hardware error (probably memory/CPU or motherboard)
But before call to your hardware support try to update server firmware (server and SmartArray BIOS)

http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/storage/us/download/22660.html
and install last Proliant support pack

Re: HP DL585 G1 w/ AMD 880's Blue Screen

Thank you!

I found that the last update (the support pack) encapsulated the first two, BTW. The RAID driver was up to date, but the firmware was not, and the support pack installed a new windows driver for the 5i, so I'll keep my fingers crossed. Unfortunately replicating the problem is not straightforward so we're a little uneasy here that we've got it fixed, alas.

Anyway, thanks again!

Andrew,

No. AFAIK, Proliant support pack never contains firmware updates.

You're quite right, I confused the log entries from the firmware updates with the ones from the support pack since they all wrote to the same log.

Thanks again!
