Windows 2003 x64 support on DL320 G3 SATA RAID

Hello Everyone!

Does anybody know, how to setup a W2k3 Server x64 Standard version onto a DL320 G3 with 2* 80GB SATA RAID1? I cannot find a driver for the Adaptec Embedded HostRAID adapter. Firmware is the latest, 6/1/2005 D18. The RAID1 array state is Optimal, made with Quick init, boot enabled. I want to make a Web Server. Product Bulletin says it is supported for x64 Windows, but on the OS Matrix there is no sign for it.

P:

According to this, it's not supported:

http://h10018.www1.hp.com/wwsolutions/windows/index-all.html

On the other hand, this link certainly implies that it will work:

http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/locate/1111_6053.html

I would think that the latest PSP from that link is critical to use and don't forget to read the IMPORTANT NOTE! prior to downloading/installing:

Re: Windows 2003 x64 support on DL320 G3 SATA RAID

Roger,

Thanks for the effort to answer me!
I already downloaded the x64 PSP, but can't use it while there is no OS on the hardware. The processor is working fine with EMT64, (openBSD works fine with it but in SATA mode - not RAID mode - only). So I think, it would work with a SAS/SATA controller. But I only have the cheap SATA controller and drives. DELL uses the same controller in a server but that x64 driver does not work with this machine. HP positioned this Server - among others - as IIS Web server. So why can't I have that SATA RAID drivers? I don't need the management features, just a driver. Do you know, where can I find it?

Best regards,
Peter

Are you using the latest SmartStart CD?

Roger,

Why do I need the latest smartstart CD?
For x64 there is no SmartStart support, or am I wrong?

Peter:

If you click the link in my last post and read down under Important Note!, you'll see a reference to 64-bit W2K3. So, based on that, I would suggest you try it.

Re: Windows 2003 x64 support on DL320 G3 SATA RAID

Dear Roger,

The embedded HostRAID is NOT a Smart controller, therefore it is not affected by the CLI problem. It should be configured with a Ctrl-A at boot. W2k3 x64 Standard runs great if the HW RAID is not set in the RBSU, because SATA controller is natively supported by W2k3 x64. I want to make it run with RAID set, but this device (after setting HW RAID it is called Adaptec HostRAID at boot) is not supported by the OS. Neither PSP, nor SmartStart CD has a device driver for the Adaptec RAID controller. I think, it is not supported with an F6 driver, but with a running W2k3 it can be made running. I think, I should setup W2k3 with SATA, then install an Adaptec Embedded RAID device driver (question is which one, and from where), then turn HW RAID on, (Build the RAID, or at first just leave it as it is - JBOD) then with Emergency setup set the active controller to the RAID driver.
Meanwhile HP sent me a bid about setting W2k3 up on this machine, so I think it can be made. The question is, why they don't give a driver for this device for free?

Peter:

This is a link to the only 64-bit Windows HostRAID driver on Adaptec's website. The driver seems to be for slot-based RAID controllers but may be worth a try.

Re: Windows 2003 x64 support on DL320 G3 SATA RAID

Dear Roger,

this is an U320 hostraid, not an SATA. I think it should be an aarich.sys file in the driver, because the latest ROM update for DL320 contains this for the Virtual floppy, and W2k3 32bit can be installed with HW RAID enabled without any other F6 floppy.

Sorry Peter. I'm not being much help. Hopefully, someone else will jump in here and know the answer.

Never mind, Roger, I'm looking after another solution.

Thanks anyway!

Peter:

FWIW, the onboard controller is the following:

"Intel® 82801FR Integrated Serial ATA Host Controller"

Re: Windows 2003 x64 support on DL320 G3 SATA RAID

Thanks, Roger,
I already tried F6FLPY64.exe, and it didn't work. Per PB it is an Intel 82801FR, but in real it says Adaptec Embedded Hostraid v3.0 1-1255, and on the Virtual install disk there is an aarich.sys, (which works for 32bit) which is not on the F6FLPY64 extracted floppy. There is an iastor.sys.

Peter

I used the driver from the ML110. I have attached the driver
