Strange timeouts on disk devices

I have 2 new DL580 servers with Windows 2003 and Exchange 2003 running as cluster. After moving some users (about 20) to the new server, Im getting a lot (30/day) errors in event log like this:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: lp6nds35
Event Category: None
Event ID: 9
Date: 2004-06-17
Time: 11:45:47
User: N/A
Computer: AAAA
Description:
The device, \Device\Scsi\lp6nds352, did not respond within the timeout period.

Please advice - how can I find out what exaclty is going on and how to avoid this problem?

Re: Strange timeouts on disk devices

Event 9 is usually not critical.

General causes can be the driver or the timing settings in the driver (or in registry for the driver).

Considerations to take into account is the type of storage (SAN ?) and cabling/GBICs/switches/zoning.

I can see it is a Emulex card so looking into the driver version is a good starting point. Also the type of storage may dictate settings in the driver.

Driver-wise there is also the new Storport driver-model to consider

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserversystem/storage/technologies/storport/default.mspx

This is different and suppposedly better than the old miniport or fullport drivers.

Re: Strange timeouts on disk devices

Seems like installing newer version of SecurePath software solved the isssue.

Thanks everyone for suggestions.
