This is related to the SuperDome.
I have read cases where hpux performs
poorer on certain systems the more cpus
are added. It was here on the itrc relating
to the vclass. My question relates to the
superdome complex:
It is recommended to configure a 64way.
Are there any considerations to take other
than to recognise spofs. Will I ever have to
Genesis and reinstall if something happes to
my partition.
If it is recommended to create a 64way
and not for example a 60way/4way 2 partition
for 'HA?/QA' why did HP release TPC
benchmarks based on a 48 way Superdome and
not a 64 way sd.
Thanks for feedback

If you're talking about a hardware partition, then no. If something happens to a partition, other partitions should not be affected.

I don't know about the TPC benchmarks. But other benchmarks scale all the way up to 64. There aren't any known problems with superdomes scaling to 64-way.

Re: HPUX ability to perform with 64 CPUs (SUPERDOME)
Okay,
Thanks sam. Just to clarify, I have
learnt that the SD perf does increase
with added cpu but not linearly all the
way up to 64 way single partition.
(Soft partitioning not available yet..True?)
just to add, even if the 64way hard partition
does halt and block at bch, you CAN always
interogate the complex by accessing the GSP,
either by
1: SMS A class to GSP private
or
2: Direct on customer Lan to GSP
You will then find out the state of your OS
from there, and boot it into a stable state/
rescue state (BCH/ISL/HPUX) and not have
to rely on a second hard partition running
a seperate OS to interrogate the complex.
(Once you have Admin rights at the GSP that is)
Apparently the 48way TPC results are because
Oracle doesn't scale well to 64 way.. NOT the
Dome.
PS: I noticed errors in the TPC documentation.
I want a free tee shirt for finding them!
I did report them to HP. (TPEC)
Thanks,
Bill
