Tiered Solution for XP24000

Hi

We have an XP24000 box with all FC drives...we are planning to implement tiered solution with SATA drives....as far as my knowledge goes XP 24000 doesnt support SATA drives...So I want to know the possibel solution on the same.

Can I buy HP StorageWork Modular Smart Array with SATA disk and integrate with my existing 24000 box? If yes then what are the things that I need to do???

Any other suggestions are welcome...thnx in advance for your replies....

Re: Tiered Solution for XP24000

At the moment I can find this page in german language only, but this XP supports SATA drives too:

Hope this helps!

Re: Tiered Solution for XP24000

Hi Vpro,

The XP24000 (and XP20000) arrays do support SATA drives They are 1 TB 7200RPM, and recently 2 TB. The product numbers are AE182A and AE228A, respectivley.

Hope This Helps,

Is there any other HP product that can provide tiered solution with SATA disks and integrate with existing XP24000??

Yes, both the EVA and MSA families also have SATA drives!

Re: Tiered Solution for XP24000

I would recommend you virtualize a HP EVA with SATA storage since adding SATA disks to your XP will be like fitting cheap tyres to a ferrari :)

The only justification I have found valid for such a move is from a customer who had no space in his Data Center to mount a modular array, while there were plenty of empty slots in his XP.

Re: Tiered Solution for XP24000

You can put SATA disks directly into the XP24K server, or can purchase a piece of software which will let you "see" other pieces of storage from within the XP24K. I forget the name of that software, but contact your HP storage rep for information. I've also seen HP's SVSP product do similar things, that is, stretch resources across storage classes like XP24k to EVA, etc. Once again, your HP storage rep, or HP certified storage vendor can help.

Re: Tiered Solution for XP24000

The previous post has already given you the answer.

1. Install the license
HP StorageWorks XP External Storage Software

2. Configure ports on each XP cluster as initiator.

3. Zone XP and EVA ports

4. Discover EVA in XP

5. Map EVA Luns to XP CU LDEV

That shd be it.
