Re: August 2003 forum technical issues/suggestions

Hi Kathy,

I have a suggestion. Can you please create a new forum to capture all user documentation related queries?

It is sometimes very difficult to track in the forum if there were any documentation related questions.

You can structure it like the one displayed in http://docs.hp.com/ listed under browse by topic section.

For example, you can create a forum like the one given below:

User Documentation

?? Development Tools and Distributed Computing
?? Diagnostics
?? High Availability
?? HP-UX 10.x Operating System
?? Network and Systems Management
?? Networking and Communications
.
.
. <>

I hope you would consider my request.

Thanks for your time.

Best regards,
Hemanth

Re: August 2003 forum technical issues/suggestions

Hi Kathy,

I would like to add one more suggestion.

If users can get to chat in ITRC forums, that will be great! If ITRC has a chat facility, it will help users who need an answer immediately and someone who is online can respond to him/her on the fly.

What is your idea about this suggestion?

Thanks,
Hemanth

Re: August 2003 forum technical issues/suggestions

Hi Hemanth,

Thanks for both of your suggestions. I appreciate your thoughts.

I will run both ideas by the technical folks of these forums and the ITRC forums to see what can be done.

For your information, there is an "ActiveChat" feature available for certain products from HP. Here's a link to this feature:

http://isupport4.hp.com/euserv/jsp/product.jsp?option=activechat&region=NA&mode=enduser

Thanks again and have a great day!

Re: August 2003 forum technical issues/suggestions

Hello Kathy,

Thanks for considering my request to create a new forum for user documentation.

I was not aware about the chat facility that was available for some products via ITRC. Thanks for the pointer.

I have one more issue.

Well, I tried to access ITRC in office and I was not able to login to my account. This problem has always been there. I am always accessing ITRC from my home PC but not from my PC in office.

Can you help me with this issue?

I would appreciate your help in resolving this issue at the earliest.

Thanks,
Hemanth

Hi again Hemanth,

To resolve the issue of you not being able to access these forums on a different computer, please e-mail itrc.support@hp.com. They'll be able to assist you with this.

Thanks again for your forum participation.

Take care,

Re: August 2003 forum technical issues/suggestions

HELLO

Kathy,

I still have problems with mail notification.

Here is one of my earlier posts and the notification in it works better than just fine, because I receive notifications even to my own replies, which is sort of annoying because it make you think that there had been new reply to the post, but when you actually go there , you see that is is your own reply there and makes you mad, false alarm sort to say.

http://bizforums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0x475935a43b46d71190080090279cd0f9,00.html

Here is the next post that i just started recently and never had been notified of any replies to it. To me it looks like I'm the only one experiencing this issue, or the only one that brings it up. Do you know Whats UP with mail notification???

Re: August 2003 forum technical issues/suggestions

Hi Serge,

I am aware that some folks are having intermittent trouble with the e-mail notification feature within these forums. I know the technical team is working on the issue and they have made some progress, so things should be getting better. There are still some issues, though, so hang in there! We are working to eliminate the trouble.

I have put in a request to see if forum members can NOT receive an e-mail notification if they respond to a thread. The technical team is working to see if this is possible.

I appreciate your patience with these issues and also want to thank you for your forum contributions.

Take care,

Kathy

Re: August 2003 forum technical issues/suggestions

Hello Kathy,

I do have a few more suggestions to improve our forum. From usability perspective, it is sometimes time consuming, going by the amount of clicks I need to do to jump from one forum to another. Can you provide a list box instead where we can select a particular forum and jump to that forum? This will help.

You can probably give a list box named Forum Jump. Please see the link attached to see if we can leverage the same.

http://www.webwizguide.info/forum/search.asp?KW=3BEPb&SM=1&SI=AR&FM=3&OB=1

Besides, does the search functionality allow me to view answers given by a particular author on some related topics?

Also, is there a member list that is maintained in ITRC that I can view?

Any ideas about when the new forum on user documentation will be created?

Thanks,
Hemanth

Re: August 2003 forum technical issues/suggestions

Hi again Kathy,

This message is to bring to your notice that the links under highlights section in the main ITRC page are not working. I get the following error message on clicking all of the links:

could not find document

Hewlett-Packard regrets the document you requested was not found. The document may have been replaced, so try refreshing the previous screen. If that does not fix the problem, then please try again later.

(Error 21002)

Please check.

Thanks,
Hemanth

Re: August 2003 forum technical issues/suggestions

Hi again Hemanth,

Thank you for the additional suggestions. Although I can't promise each of them will be implemented, I do pass each one to the forum development team for consideration. So, I don't know if that forum will be created or not; stay tuned!

There is a forum member list you can view; from the front page of these forums, look on the right side of the screen at the Top Users list. Right below this list there is an "all forum members" selection. Forum members are listed in alphabetical order once you select the first letter for your search.

Regarding the error you're receiving from the main ITRC page, is this under the "forums update" section? If so, the errors must have been fixed because I have no trouble viewing those documents. If you're receiving the error in a different area, please let me know where so I can check it out.

Thanks again for your time; I appreciate it!

Kathy

Re: August 2003 forum technical issues/suggestions

Hi Kathy,

You can view the errors when you click any of the links in the highlights section, right corner of the ITRC page (http://itrc.hp.com).

Hope this helps.

Re: August 2003 forum technical issues/suggestions

Hello Hemanth,

I just checked all of those links within the "highlights" section of the ITRC home page and none of them returned an error. If you're still experiencing a problem with them, you might consider deleting your Temporary Internet files and/or cookies within your browser. If you delete cookies, please make a note of your User ID and password to any sites you visit frequently as they will be required next time you visit those sites.

Thanks again,

Kathy, is there a Compaq forum, we are starting to get alot of Compaq questions, and i think that would give them better odd's on finding someone more familiar with their models !?

Re: August 2003 forum technical issues/suggestions

Good morning Kathy, I'm sorry to bother you, but three times in last couple of months, i have left hotlinks for forum users, and the thread will become physically out of allignment, i beleive Bob made mention of an = sign at the end of the link being the cause, so hopefully tech can do something soon, this is a real problem, i know you guys repair them as found, but this doesn't help the nervous author waiting for his rescue answer,-- here is a link to the current one. Thanks and enjoy your holliday, don't eat to much now, i know i will ! -----------------------------------
