Re: July 2003 forum technical issues and suggestions for improvement

Hi Kathy -

I have set my profile up to send me email on new postings in several of the groups here. LAtely I have been getting messages with a large number of "null" subjects, which also have no body text either. A sample from today's mail is included following. I do not know if the original postings are empty or if these are postings that have been removed for inappropriate content, but in either case I would prefer to not get email notifications of these null posts. Is it possible the software could be modified to completely delete empty messages, or at least not send them out in the email notifications?

Regards,
Bob Headrick

Re: July 2003 forum technical issues and suggestions for improvement

Kathy, the sluggish issues with scrolling while page is still downloading semms to exist only with IE, because recently i got netscape 7.1 and it seems that it does not have any issues with scrolling while the page still opens up/downloads.

Hi Bob and Serge,

Bob - the links you provided are from the ITRC forums, so I haven't a clue whether they've been deleted or what's happened. I will pass this thread to Dan Gazzaniga, the Forum Manager over there, to see if he knows.

Serge - we are continuing to work on the issue you describe. I use IE and experience the same thing. Thanks for reporting it!

Take care and thanks to both of you for your continued forum participation.

Re: July 2003 forum technical issues and suggestions for improvement

I set up my profile a while ago and recieve messages of new posts that started on some boards
But sometimes a new post I get, is the same as one I got a day earlier, so thats not a new one. This happends to me often when it is very busy on the forum and I recieve a message that new posts starten every day.
Not tat all posts in the mail are old ones, but one or two are.

Re: July 2003 forum technical issues and suggestions for improvement

Hi Ronald,

Thanks for this information. I do have a question... when you say that a couple of the threads in the daily e-mail are not new, are you saying that there is not any new activity within the thread in the past day?

Every thread mentioned in that e-mail is not necessarily going to be new; there may be some threads that are older, but with new activity (responses).

Let me know so I can get this reported if it's not working as intended.

Thanks!

Re: July 2003 forum technical issues and suggestions for improvement

what I mean is, that the mails with the subject: New HP Forum Discussions for.... are mails with new discussions, but sometimes some of the posts in that mail are the same as some posts in the mail of yesterday.

Hope it's clear now.

Re: July 2003 forum technical issues and suggestions for improvement

Hi Kathy,
I have to points
1 If I respond on a message and I select notify me, I get a message when someone responds, that works fine.
But if I respond myself at a later time (i.e. to add extra info) I also get the message, thats not very usefull I supose, so if it is possibel to remove that, I would like that.

2 I received a New HP Forum Discussions for Mon Jul 14... and there are a lot of double discussions in it.

Re: July 2003 forum technical issues and suggestions for improvement

Thanks, Ronald.

This information helps; I will pass it along as I mentioned above.

Also, I think it's a good idea to not be notified via e-mail when you respond to a thread; I'm not sure it can technically be done, but I will certainly check it out!

Take care,

Kathy

Re: July 2003 forum technical issues and suggestions for improvement

Hi again guys,

Bob - I checked with Dan and the threads you mention were indeed deleted; we don't know if it was because they were duplicates, contained offensive language or similar. Since they probably "existed" when the daily e-mail is created, there's no way to get rid of them from that e-mail. Sorry.

Serge - the "scrolling" issue with IE is currently being investigated.

Ronald - the threads you reported were posted as duplicates (the forum member must have hit "submit" multiple times). Since they are "valid" threads (until the duplicates are deleted by a moderator), they will appear in the daily e-mail. There's no way around that.

I have also put in a request to investigate the possibility of turning off the "notification" when you respond to a thread. We'll see if that can be done technically.

Again, thanks for your feedback.

Take care,

Kathy

Re: July 2003 forum technical issues and suggestions for improvement

Hi Kathy,

Over the past month or so, I've found that I have to press the submit button twice to get a reply posted.

I've fallen for multiple submit button trick a few times before, but today the old submit button kept on coming up with a page not found error.

Checked back on the Omnibook page after about 5 minutes and no post came up so went for it a second time. Second bout ended up same as the first. End result when I checked back several hours later - total of 8 multiple replies.

http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0x09cbd7d96cbad711900a0090279cd0f9,00.html

Possibly a simple popup like
"Reply posted/accepted - Please wait" could help avoid multiples?

Re: July 2003 forum technical issues and suggestions for improvement

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the post. I have deleted the duplicate posts in the thread you reported. I know we experienced some technical difficulties yesterday afternoon; that may be why that happened. I have also reported the "submit" trouble as I've experienced it myself. The technical team is working diligently to fix these issues.

I appreciate your patience during this time.

Take care,

Kathy

Kathy,

There is still a small problem in the printer friendly page, about 80% is being printed great, but I'm missing the last 20%.

Re: July 2003 forum technical issues and suggestions for improvement

Hi Robert-Jan,

Thanks for the information. I'm not aware of a problem with the HP "printer friendly" sites. Could you give me some more detail about this issue (i.e. which sites and what happens when you print)? Also, what type of printer are you using and which OS?

Thanks!

Hi Kathy,

A bit late response (vacation (:-)). Seems the "problem" with the printable version of the forum has vanished.

Thanks for your time Kathy,

Re: July 2003 forum technical issues and suggestions for improvement

Hi Kathy,
As a user of the IT Pro forums I am excited about using the Biz forums to help with our iPAQs. However, I am noticing some things :

1. I can't seem to assign points. - I submit, but nothing is registered. I do get the ???Thank You??? page but the points don???t show up.
2. I sometimes get notified, I sometimes don???t when a reply is posted a thread.

Example thread : http://bizforums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0x05d0a42910fb964bb00fc071105a619e,00.html

I am glad to have the forums available ??? I get a lot of good information.

Keep up the good work,
Doug

Re: July 2003 forum technical issues and suggestions for improvement

Hi Doug and welcome to the Business Customer Discussion Groups!

When you experience the "points assignment" issue you describe, try assigning points again to see if it works the second time. I just assigned you some points in this thread and it worked perfectly, so I'm not sure what is happening on your end.

We are aware of the issue with the sporadic e-mail notification and are working on a fix.

Thanks and I hope you enjoy these forums!

Re: July 2003 forum technical issues and suggestions for improvement

Hi Doug,
It is been a while since I posted a tread myself, but if you assign points, you select it, but you also have to hit an assing button if I remember correctly, maybe you forgot that.
