Link to 'Top10 FAQs' for Handhelds...

So in the Ipaq forum, we have many questions that are asked over and over. It might be good to have a link to the Top 10 FAQs and have the link right next to the 'Start New Thread' button.

My list would include...

How do I delete unused icons
How do I transfer files to storage card
How do I find the MAC address of my Ipaq
How do I acess shared files in a network from my Ipaq
How do I disable dockware screen saver
How do I create a .wav file

I currently have all these answers stored as notes in OUTLOOK, which i then just copy and paste as needed.

Re: Link to 'Top10 FAQs' for Handhelds...

Laura,
I guess we'll find a few more ;-)

"Dim wallpaper image", f.e.

And AFAICS for my home (the notebook section) I would need that too.
Wish I had something like the "Boilerplate" feature of the software back in the days of the CompuServe forum.
At present I'm holding a larger number of standard texts als simple TXT-files (Notepad) for copy+pasting ;-)

Hi Laura,

A good choice--and a good idea to have a link to the document in the forum introduction. Very useful.

Re: Link to 'Top10 FAQs' for Handhelds...

Fixed the typos Laura.

There's a link at the top of the page in the Intro section as well as a link at the bottom of the page under Useful Links.

This is great - Thanks Cheryl !

Marc - if you have any input at any time, I would really welcome it - Thanks! - you seem to be doing a great job with the wireless problems.

Re: Link to 'Top10 FAQs' for Handhelds...

Thanks a lot for providing the links, Cheryl!

IMO the idea to link to *this* thread can only be an interim solution.
What we would need would be page (or prehaps a set of pages) with the texts for the MFAQ (most frequently asked questions).

Thanks again
Rainald

Re: Link to 'Top10 FAQs' for Handhelds...

Laura,
great news, for sure!

Now that the first step is done (thanks again, Cheryl ), AFAICS papers for the Top Ten questions would have to be created.

IMO placing the questions and respective replies in a *thread* would not be the proper way of providing the information.
I think that we'd need a page (or perhaps a set of pages and a main page).

I'd volunteer on helping on editing and/or writing up a texts.

Rainald

Re: Link to 'Top10 FAQs' for Handhelds...

Laura,
in the thread "icons"
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/bizsupport/questionanswer.do?threadId=944366
today I read:
"Please don't forget to visit the "Top 10 Frequently Asked Questions for Handhelds" prior to posting your question as you may find an instant answer there."

This hint IMO at present does not make sense.
The link on the forum page does not lead to any kind of information.

How could the project be given a go?

Re: Link to 'Top10 FAQs' for Handhelds...

So you go to the link, then open the attachment - and that is a WORD file with the questions and answers.

Does this not work for you ??

Re: Link to 'Top10 FAQs' for Handhelds...

I'm so sorry Laura!
Yes, now that you say it, it works for me too.
I've been to this thread at least a dozen of times. And never detected the icon for the attachment.

I can be really dumb! . It hurts :-( :-(
Still I wonder: will a Johnny Sixpack type of user find it better than me ?

Re: Link to 'Top10 FAQs' for Handhelds...

Hey - it's OK - really - just a bad week for me this week.

So I just saw someone else refer to a 'Johnny Sixpack' strange life. In England, we call him 'Joe Bloggs'

Re: Link to 'Top10 FAQs' for Handhelds...

Hope you'll be better soon!

I did not know "Joe Bloggs" and AFAIK "Johhny Sixpck" (now that I think over it me seems that it might be "Joe" ) is an idiom coming from America.

All the best

Re: Link to 'Top10 FAQs' for Handhelds...

So this is for Marc and everyone.....

I think if someone asks a question that is in the FAQs - we should still go ahead and answer it in that thread but then at the end we should make reference to the FAQs.

I think our aim should always be to help a person in the quickest way. If they get their answer from the FAQs , then that's great. If they miss the link we should still help them in the same way.

I would hate for the FAQ link to slow down a solution.

Re: Link to 'Top10 FAQs' for Handhelds...

Hi Laura,
Have tried your suggestion re transferring files from PC directly to the storage card via Explorer, and it won't let me. A circle with a line through it appears when trying to drag, and the paste command is dulled when trying copy and paste.
I have an ipaq 1710 and windows XP.
Hope you can help
Robert.
