rainald , there is a problem with the site ; I have tried to post on a couple of threads which I have been following and received the same message , when they have clearly not been closed by the author

Re: To Jeff Blair (ex Power Options)

Grayson,
yes, there seems to be a problem.
Had to face this numerous times last night.
It could mostly be saved by copying the text I had written, go back to the therad and click on the reply button again and paste the text and then click the "submit" button immediately.

What browser are you running?
How often does this happen and could you please note the time? We are looking for any patterns to this issue so that it can be investigated. Please also submit the thread in question. You could post the information in a new thread under the Feedback and Forums Usage Questions.

Re: To Jeff Blair (ex Power Options)

from long time & several times
such problems was noted by me
but ONLY on this forum.

if reply was too long
(in lines but not in letters or bits)
and the same
if was used several time preview of replay (eg due to correction reason)

my solution was as follow :
1.copy reply to Notepad
2.close reply by several time
3.re-write reply on Notepad
4.than remove several lines
(reduce number of lines used in text)
or cut text to several replies (2 or 3)
5.open reply
6.copy text from Notepad
7.do NOT use preview
8.try to send on the forum

ect several times
up to sucesful reply.

BTW w2k IE5'5

Re: To Jeff Blair (ex Power Options)

Cheryl,
thanks fortaking care of the problem - the more as ou are just doing that on your own!

Having had the problems the other day (Oct. 5, during the hours around midnight MT), I had wanted to post a msg in the feedback forum but I was just too tired to do so.
And AFAICS the problem has gone away meanwhile.

As you asked for dteails:
It was a period of app. 4 t 6 hours around midnight GMT.
On each and any reply I had typed and tried to submit, I received a "thread closed" page when using the "submit" button.

Way out/workaround was
- browser's "back" button to get to the page where I had typed my reply;
- marking the text and "Ctrl+C" for copying the text of the reply to the Win clipboard;
- browser's back button again to get back to the thread;
- click the reply button again;
- "Shift+Ins" for pasting the text from the clipboard into the reply field;
- immediately thereafter click the "submit" button.

IMO it was a time-out problem:
- submitting a reply after typing it *always* led to the "thread closed" page,
- pasting the text into the reply field and immediately clicking on "submit" did work.

Hope this helps

Rainald
P.S. The very problem only appeared during the 4 to 6 hours period on the said day.
It did not reappear thereafter

Re: To Jeff Blair (ex Power Options)

Grayson,
urgent advice:
Uninstall the "Docking Station" driver.

BTW:
Which kind of Docking Station is this on your side?

Re: To Jeff Blair (ex Power Options)

Cheryl

Had same "Thread Closed" problem between 14:07 and 14:20 today.
Thread was 712703.
I'm using IE6.0.2800/1106IS

Took ages trying to post the reply - with the progress bar not quite getting to the halfway point. Copied the text, pressed the "Clear" button on the reply window, repasted and tried again. Still dead slow - so opened a new window. Immediately the second window opened, the first window completed and gave acknowledgement. The second window reported "could not open URL....."
The reply HAS appeared OK.
Hope this helps you to nail down the problem.
