Keyboard Error !

I have been given the task of re-conditioning a ProLiant 5500 which also involves upgrading the O/S to Windows 2000 Server and am using the latest version of Smart Start for this (v5.40). Smart Start installation goes as smoothly as can be expected, Smart Start finishes and copies the installation files ready for Windows 2000 server installation. After re booting when copy has finished and Profile and Smart Start CD disks have been remove. Server starts up with the standard W2K server boot screen, then when you get the initial screen which prompts you to "click on NEXT to continue with setup", i find that there is no mouse cursor (as if not mouse was plugged in) and keyboard not responding (also as if it was not plugged in). I have tried replacing both devices but still not luck. Also tried reinstalling using a different make keyboard and mouse, but still no luck. Both keyboard and mouse were working during the Smart Start installation and on the previous O/S which was installed (WINNT4.0).

Any idea why this would be happening ?

Re: Keyboard Error !

Hi are you doing a assisted install and did you ran the erase utility prior (which will erase everything) And what is the lattes rom? Any non Compaq hardware. Is the SCU also been upgraded. If still have the mouse problem sugg using the ss 5.3 instead of the ss 5.4. Hope this will help.

Re: Keyboard Error !

I have choosen the assisted install and used the Erase Utility within Smart Start ptior to installing. All hardware in the server is compaq and as for SCU ? dont know that that is ? What i am doing at the moment is installing WINNT 4.0 with Smart Start assisted install and then upgrading to 2000 from there.

Re: Keyboard Error !

Hello Scott,
SCU stands for System Configuration utility. Please run System erase and then bring the server down. Please move the position of the first HDD. Basically swapp it with another HDD. Even though the system erase has been run sometimes residue still exists of your previous configuration. Also please make sure that there is no KVM in the picture. Please bring the RAM down to minimum configuration. Also if you have Remote Insight board please remove and connect the Key Bd and Mouse directly at the back of the server.

Regards,
