Since the beginning, HPE has advanced the way people live and work by creating innovative technology at the heart of successful organizations and communities all over the world. We invite you inside our careers and culture through stories of the people who power HPE—our team members.

Meet Emily David, who lives and works in Tampa, Florida, and serves as Chief of Staff to our Executive Vice President and Chief Sales Officer. She’s a 10-year HPE team member who leveraged her knowledge of technology, love of people, and passion for travel to attain the best job she’s ever had

Emily’s HPE career journey

Emily has spent most of her career in sales, such as serving as the global account manager for HPE’s largest distributor. This gave her a strong understanding of technology, our partner ecosystem, and customer needs. Soon she got involved with projects to build our distribution strategy, developed multiple sales programs, and took on a new role managing a global channel sales team. It’s these experiences that led Emily to a chief of staff role which she truly loves.

Team member straight talk

Q: How would you describe what you do as a Chief of Staff?
A: My role as Chief of Staff is all about helping our head of sales and his team focus on shared objectives, prioritize how we utilize our time, connect the dots between organizations and projects, and make sure we’re prepared to have meaningful discussions on any subject. I am mindful of how we are working as a team and with other organizations, and very selective on how I create agendas for team meetings, customer/partner meetings, and trips to the geographies. We as a leadership team need to hear the diverse experiences and feedback from our teams, customers, and partners in order to make effective global decisions.

Q: How do you redefine what’s next in your career?
A: I never had a specific career path in mind. I look for opportunities that can utilize my strengths but also enable me to grow and learn.  I didn’t even know what a chief of staff was until five years ago and decided that it would play to my strengths.  I will continue to look for future opportunities where I can build my skills by trying new things. Being exposed to the executive level, I now have an even broader view on where my career can go. That type of exposure to the vast career possibilities at HPE is priceless.

Q: How would you describe the culture at HPE?
A: We have a strong culture of inclusion and I see it in practice every day. We are people first and data-driven; we listen to team members ideas and feedback and we take that into consideration when we make decisions. I see it every day when we fight to do the right thing for our customers, our partners, our team members, and our shareholders. This also makes us really effective as a team.
