SQL Server 2025 public preview announced at Microsoft Build
This week at the annual Microsoft Build event, Microsoft announced the Public Preview of the new SQL Server 2025. It’s proclaimed as “Enterprise AI-ready from ground to cloud”, and HPE is embracing it as an important component of our hybrid cloud infrastructure approach. We’re anticipating an exciting period over this next year as we rev our related HPE Hybrid Cloud solutions for SQL Server, and customers are able to realize the synergy of these two innovative products sets.
HPE was one of a select group of companies who partnered with Microsoft during the Private Preview of SQL Server 2025 over this past year. This was acknowledged by the mention of HPE among other leading companies including Intel and AMD, during the related SQL Server session at the event. Along with the private preview, teams across HPE have been actively involved in performance benchmark testing, and are now working towards delivering demos with the new code in support of major shared events, and updating our related solution portfolios for Day-0 support when SQL Server is expected to go RTM later this year.
SQL Server accentuates AI value in the HPE solution portfolio
After three decades, SQL Server remains the leading enterprise database, and this week at Microsoft Build, the Public Preview of SQL Server was announced. SQL has been the #1 installed base app across our HPE Storage products, and as such we’ve valued the opportunity to be involved in early access programs with Microsoft. HPE received a brief testimonial during a ‘corenote’ session at Build, “What's New in Microsoft Databases: Empowering AI-Driven App Dev”. Following the event, the companies will continue to team on opportunities to amplify our partnership around SQL Server 2025 through this launch effort and beyond.

As we accelerate our customers’ use of Azure for AI and other applications through our leading HPE Hybrid Cloud infrastructure products, we expect SQL Server 2025 to be a valuable new component in enterprise database solutions. HPE Hybrid Cloud infrastructure solutions for Microsoft accelerate databases with all-flash and NVMe, and now with SQL Server 2025 we expect to further advance data management with even higher levels of performance and scalability for our enterprise customers.
HPE is excited about SQL Server 2025 to empower organizations with advanced analytics and real-time insights. It will be central to Hybrid Cloud database solutions built with the HPE Alletra Storage MP X10000 to enable Machine Learning and AI applications. SQL Server 2025 comes with new AI features including vector search and integration with Azure OpenAI. They will help drive innovation as HPE customers implement hybrid cloud analytics and data lake integration between platforms such as HPE Alletra Storage MP X10000 and Azure.
The customer value prop of SQL Server + HPE
When working with Microsoft product peer teams, we witnessed how SQL Server 2025 running in a highly available Windows Server 2025 environment will failover within about 4 seconds. It’s the kind of HA that previously required investment in specialized products or extensive expertise to maintain. This kind of fault tolerance is especially important to many of HPE’s very large financial services customers who will benefit from data storage solutions with SQL Server 2025. This coupled with our hybrid cloud infrastructure helps ensure uptime with up to 100% data availability guaranteed, as well as additional, valuable features like integrated ransomware protection and backup and recovery.
HPE will use SQL Server 2025 to enhance our data infrastructure solutions built with HPE Alletra Storage to support valuable, new AI workloads across geographies and industries. We expect our customers to develop exciting new Azure-connected data applications with the new SQL Server 2025, so we’re committed to expand our Azure arc-enabled hybrid cloud infrastructure solutions to support their growth and digital transformation.

HPE is confident that SQL Server 2025 will up the game for powerful data management and analytics tools. In time for the expected RTM later this year, we’re updating our portfolio of related database solutions to let customers access and combine block, file or object data, whether on-premises or in the Azure cloud, for their AI related analytics and applications.
The future of data management is here with SQL Server 2025. HPE hybrid cloud infrastructure solutions improve performance, efficiency and availability for SQL Server, whether for AI application development, data analytics, on-premises data warehouse offload and more.
