HPE Primera: architecture for SCM, NVMe, and SSDs
Today I have my first HPE Primera focused podcast, the first of many I'm sure. I tried to catch up with Phill Gilbert at HPE Discover to do this but we were both so busy we didn't have time. But I did grab Phill after we got back and had our voices in top form to do this podcast.
Phill and I discussed the HPE Primera architecture and specifically how the new architecture and OS will use Storage Class Memory (SCM), the NVMe protocol, and SSDsโwhether NVMe or SAS.
To subscribe to the podcast, open this link and click on the "View in iTunes" button under my picture. If you don't use iTunes, you can find my podcast on TalkShoe.com, Google Play Music. and just added to Spotify Podcast, and Stitcher! On Google, you'll get "invited" to try Google Play Music for 30 days - just click "no thanks" to get past this and get to the podcast.
Here's what we discussed in the podcast:
- 00:00 - 01:00: Introductions
- 01:00 - 02:45: What does active/active and "massive-parallelized" architecture mean?
- 02:45 - 03:45: How Primera uses its ASICs (super-highway and RDMA).
- 03:45 - 05:00: How will Primera use NVMe?
- 05:00 - 06:45: How will Primera use Storage Class Memory (SCM) and compare it to 3PAR?
- 06:45 - 07:50: How will intelligence in Primera optimize using SCM?
- 07:50 - 09:40 : How will Primera use SSDs looking at NVMe and SAS-based SSDs?
- 09:40 - 11:45: Other array vendors are using NVMe. What are considerations customers should look at when consider different architectures?
- 11:45 - 12:45: Wrap-up
