More choices to modernize your business with HPE SimpliVity Gen11

Get the complete story on how to modernize your distributed enterprise with new HPE SimpliVity Gen11 and HPE GreenLake for Private Cloud Business Edition. – Chuck Wood , Senior Product Marketing Manager, HPE Storage and Hyperconverged Infrastructure

We all know this to be true: Data continues to be the lifeforce for activating the next generation of business and operation models that move your business forward. As you seek simpler solutions on your transformation journey to run virtualized workloads, you likely find challenges to deploy and manage private cloud. CertainHPE SimpliVity-BLOG.png challenges may exist with private cloud –  such as reducing overall complexity, improving resiliency, and overall economics and efficiency.

However, there’s good news. Many customers rely on hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) to address private cloud use cases. Customers continue to rely on HCI as a foundation for private cloud and hybrid cloud deployments as the architecture helps reduce complexity while providing cloud-like agility. According to IDC, HCI appliance purchase activity in 2023 was reflected by a decline in market revenue during 2023, but a rebound is expected in 2024. Growth in the HCI appliance market is expected to rebound in 2024 and grow worldwide to over $9 Billion by 2028.[1] At HPE, one area of continued growth we see when speaking with customers is for distributed edge sites and remote offices/locations. Simplicity of management is a key capability of HCI – and critical use cases for HCI continue to be VDI, general purpose virtualization, databases, analytics, and edge computing.

Taking HCI further as foundation for private cloud

HPE Private Cloud with HPE SimpliVity represents one of these new approaches to HCI. It delivers the same simplicity and operational experience, but with an all-in-one HCI architecture capable of running general purpose apps and edge workloads with simplicity, resiliency, and resource efficiency. Let’s explore some new enhancements available to customers who are looking for HCI to power their private clouds.

What you really need is a simplified private cloud

HPE provides just that with workload-optimized solutions available via HPE GreenLake. We’re introducing HPE SimpliVity Gen11 support with HPE GreenLake for Private Cloud Business Edition to give you the agility and economics of the cloud with the control and governance of on-premises IT in a powerful solution.

Designed as an efficient all-in-one HCI architecture, HPE SimpliVity is ideal for general purpose workloads, edge computing, and VDI. This solution dramatically simplifies IT by combining compute, storage, networking and advanced data services for virtualized workloads on a single device. To give you more choice, we recently added support for new compute options.

HPE SimpliVity Gen11 overview

You now have more options for private cloud with an HCI solution for hosting more VMs. You can reap the benefits from the latest generation of computing power for virtualized workloads, power your hybrid world with an intuitive cloud operating experience, and leverage a trusted, secure solution. HPE SimpliVity clusters can leverage HPE ProLiant Gen11 servers that deliver compact and versatile platforms while enabling consistent performance and industry-leading data efficiency. You can choose either AMD-based HPE SimpliVity 325 Gen11 or Intel-based HPE SimpliVity 380 Gen11. The 1U 1P HPE SimpliVity 325 Gen11 is perfect for edge computing and distributed sites for customers seeking a compact, space constrained platform for running VMs. The 2U, versatile HPE SimpliVity 380 Gen11 is designed for more storage-intensive workloads with expansion options for multi-site deployments.

The models have been enhanced with newer CPUs, larger memory, larger capacity, and expanded NVIDIA GPU support. Compared to earlier models, the new HPE SimpliVity 380 Gen11 delivers 40% more CPU cores per socket (56 vs 40); 34% more per node capacity with a new 43 TB option with 16 x 3.84 TB drives; and up to 33% more memory resources.  Plus, we’ve expanded GPU support to include NVIDIA H100, L40, L4, A16 and Intel Max 1100 accelerators.  The new HPE SimpliVity 325 Gen11 delivers up to 2X more CPU cores (128 vs 64); two new, per node, capacities options of 15 TB and 21 TB (double the capacity of prior models); and new support for NVIDIA A2 GPUs.

All models include high availability in all layers with just two nodes and storage features that will boost efficiency without negatively affecting performance, such as inline compression and deduplication. With either model, you can start small with as few as two nodes for high availability and have a single node in a remote site for off-site data protection.  Stretch cluster deployments are also support for additional resiliency. This is a popular topology for edge deployment use cases.  The HPE Simplivity stretched cluster solution works in cooperation with hypervisor HA to ensure that when one or more HPE SimpliVity Gen11 system failures occur in a physical location, guest virtual machines can be restarted automatically in a second location without human intervention. Customers gain all the capabilities they are familiar with using HPE SimpliVity along with the powerful HPE ProLiant Gen11 innovations.

Leverage HPE SimpliVity Gen11 with HPE GreenLake

In addition to the new HPE ProLiant Gen11 support for both AMD and Intel-based systems, HPE has also delivered more ways to help you modernize IT and your virtualized infrastructure. With HPE SimpliVity Gen11 compute and HPE GreenLake with Private Cloud Business Edition you get a solution engineered for breakthrough innovation with a simple, cloud operational model. With HPE SimpliVity, you can also run VMware vSphere 8.0, which includes VMware ESXi 8.0 and VMware vCenter Server 8.0. As well, the latest Gen11 platform innovation for modernizing your business comes on the heels of the availability for HPE SimpliVity support within HPE GreenLake for Private Cloud Business Edition

What customers are saying about HPE SimpliVity

Nothing is more powerful than hearing what our customers have to say about a solution. Here are a few quotes from customers who have deployed disaggregated HCI, and how they benefit with performance, resiliency, and operational efficiency.

“HPE SimpliVity allows us to focus on growing the business instead of trying to band-aid things to keep things going." – Randall Cowart, Sr. Network Engineer at Capital Data Services.[2]

"HPE SimpliVity saves us time to focus on strategic innovation and data insights. With only a small storage budget for the year, HPE SimpliVity solved our backups & DR and improved our application performance by 50%. The solution's TCO addressed everything in our planning for the next budget year.” – Jens Berensmann, Head of IT at Wagerenof[3]

“HPE SimpliVity has helped to solve our DR initiative with minimal effort as well as allows us to simply deploy applications and infrastructure across multiple sites." – TJ Offnet, Systems Engineer, Butterball[4]
