Aruba Firmware Updates 2

Hi

Further to my previous question about the upgrade path from previous firmware versions, could I ask someone to just check my logic of upgrading a J9779A 2530-24-PoE+ switch?

It's current firmware version is YB.16.01.0007

My plan is as follows:

YB.16.01.0007 -> YB.16.03.0006

YB.16.03.0006 -> YB.16.05.0012

YB.16.05.0012 -> YB.16.07.0005

YB.16.07.0005 -> YB.16.09.0012

YB.16.09.0012 -> YB.16.10.0009 (the latest)

Does this look correct?

Is it necessary (or worthwhile) to get the current YB16.01.0007 firmware upgraded to YB.16.01.0012 (the latest version of YB.16.01.xxxx) prior to going to YB.16.03.0006?

Finally, what is the device-api-v7.0-16.10.0009 update for? There aren't any release notes with it. Do I need to somehow apply it after I get the firmware up to YB.16.10.0009? How is this done?

Thanks for any advice and/or confirmation that I'm on the right track with my upgrade path for this switch.

Re: Aruba Firmware Updates 2

Hi!

You should safely update directly from YB.16.01.0007 to latest YB.16.10.0009. Just be prepared to simply wait for a dual (automatic [*]) reboot of the switch since, probably, the minimal Boot ROM version requested by (and embedded into) YB.16.10.0009 is newer than the installed one on your switch (check using the one your switch is running on with the show flash CLI command) [**].

As usual perform a backup of your running configuration before starting any update attempt.

The device-api-v7.0-16.10.0009 is related to ArubaOS-Switch RESTful API...nothing directly related to firmware update/upgrade procedure.

[*] During the software update, the switch will automatically boot twice. The switch will update the primary Boot ROM, then reboot, and then update the secondary Boot ROM. After the switch flash memory is updated and the final boot is initiated, no additional user intervention is needed. Do not interrupt power to the switch during this important update.

[**] The YB.16.01.0007 uses Boot ROM version YB.15.07, the YB.16.10.0009 uses Boot ROM YB.15.10.
